Octarius 'Nids vs Thousand Sons 2k pts

I got to go against a TSons player as well over the weekend with the new rules and it was a blast trying it out.  List and turn-by-turn below.

Mission was Scorched Earth. I took Engage, bring it down, and raise banners. He took mutate landscape, ROD, and assassinate.

First turn I went first. Threw cover from broodlord on genestealers, +1 to hit from warriors on a hive guard, and re-rolls wounds from tervigon on tyrannofex. Advanced genestealers and broodlord up just outside his face and had to wait for turn 2 charge. hive tyrant flew up side and got some smites and shots into a rhino destroying it. hive guard units got one contemptor to half health and other same. exocrine got one contemptor down to 2 wounds after shooting twice. tyrannofex took out a flamer squad from the destroyed rhino. He followed up with all his shooting and the FNP from levi saved SO MANY WOUNDS somehow. From all his shooting I lost 2 wounds of tyrant, 5 wounds off tervigon, 2 gants, and 5 genestealers.

Turn 2 (brought in both lictors and rippers to hold big engage obj) I advanced genestealers and tyrant into charge range of flamer squad, infernal master, and contemptor. exocrine and hive guard all made final work of forge fiend and both contemptors. tyrannofex killed some of flamer squad in front of genestealers. (psychic wasnt very strong with lots of deny). charged in and took out flamers with genes, and infernal master with tyrant. he never got to swing back. His turn and he rushed the mutalith into my gants and snuck his other rhino into my back line disembarking a flamer squad and rubrics into a unit of warriors and hive guard. FNP came to the rescue along with cover bonuses to only lose half my gants and nothing else.

Turn 3 I continued my sweep anninalating two rubric squads, and claiming some more objectives. He countered with mutalith and some flamers to finish off my tervigon and gants.

Turn 4 I focused my stealers, tyrant, lictors, and rippers on holding objectives. everything else not in combat( one hive guard unit in combat) shot at what he had left and took out the mutalith. used a unit of warriors and hive guard in combat to screen my exocrine to keep him from being able to charge it with remaining rubrics. He countered killing a unit of warriors and one other unit of rubric in the back line to hold a single objective.

Turn 5 I took all but one squad in his deployment sitting on objective. kept broodlord and tyrant safe in cover as they were both down to 1 wound each. On his turn he advanced his last sorceror towards my tyrant to attempt a smite and periled. tyrant shrugged off single mortal with FNP and his psker went to 2 wounds remaining.

Game ended 84 - 42, my favor. I was able to hold majority primary and max it out keeping him from scoring more than 20 pts on primaries.

Using the warriors to throw +1 to hit on hive guard constantly was great. And the cover from broodlord link was amazing throwing it on stealers to keep them or himself alive. heavy cover in combat was great i tell ya. didnt use wound re-roll from tervigon more than once, but it paid off with the tyrannofex getting a ton of wounds through to the forgefiend. tyrant ignoring invuln in combat was only used once but it allowed him to kill a character with no ability for them to swing back.

Overall a fun game and nice to see some units in i havent used in awhile. (genestealers, tervigon, tyranofex) been used to bringing a dima so much it felt weird. but very fun.

I’m really scratching my head as to why your opponent took assassinate when you have three characters.
