Tyranid incursion game - 1000 pts

Hello! My LGS is organizing a 1000 points tournament. I have never played at so little points before and due to the changes to CP, missions and board size I am a bit lost.

Anyway, I drafted several list arround Octarius' new toys and the hive guard, which is meant to cover the whole board in this kind of games and I hope it would carry the games. The rest of the army is some extra threats, in mele form mainly, and support to them.

I expect Deathguard, Grey Knights, Space Wolves and some kind of Astra Militarum.

Some kind of feedback is appreciated. Thank you before hand.

The tournament took place yesterday, and I win, yeah!

I ended playing something different:

Tyranid Prime - WL: Chapter master - Sinaptic link - Scything Talons / Bonesword and lash whip.
Flyrant - Paroxysm / Psychic Scream - AS: Murderous Size - Rending Claws / Devourers

I played against Tyranids, 2 Space wolves and Tau. The MVP of the tournament were the Hive Guard, they destroyed a lot of models during first and second turn. With so little CP most times I chose to double shoot rather than explosive hits on genestealers.
Most games at the tournament were pretty unbalanced, the average difference was pretty huge, arround 40 points. Overall the advantage of getting first turn was even bigger than at 2000 points. The games did not feel well at all when people were tabled on turn 3. May be we have to do some house rules about the size of the board...

First game against Tyranids - Mission 13. Raid: the guy was new to Tyranids and played whatever he had at home: hormagaunts, hive tyrant, malaceptor, mawloc, some warriors and zoanthropes. I helped him and explained about tyranids, but was an easy win.

Space wolves - Mission 32, Show of force: Primaris intercesors, Terminators, Redentor, Librarian, Captain. This was a thought machup, I made several mistakes over the game, the main one getting my hive tyrant killed on the first turn. A close game I win by 4 points.

Scpace wolves - Mission 11, Corssfire, wolves again, but this time a friend of mine and a very different list, Blood claws, Wolf Lord on Thunderwolf, Thunderwolves, Wolf Guard, Flamer terminators. I got the first turn and the Hive guard obliterated th Thunderwolves and Guard, He couldn't recover.

Tau - Mission 12 Resupply: Riptide, crisis, a transport, an a bunch of fire warriors (sorry I don't remember the list): Again, getting the first turn and destroying the Riptide with the hive guard gave me a favourable position and the rest of the game was covering the board avoiding his reserves getting on the board.

Overall, the list fells balanced, Hive guard are so good, the supplement gave us a spike in power level, but CP intensive.

The main issue was the game system, and the games will gravitate towards 2000 points instead.

yeah, I would expect Hive Guard to be solid at that points level. I have a 1k tournament next week and was considering something very similar. You didn't face any of the opponents I would think would be bad match ups at that points level (GK or sisters especially). Hive guard love primaris bodies and thunderwolves. Curious how you think you would have fared against more volume firepower like GK storm bolters.

I'm assuming lictor for secondary action monkey? What secondaries did you run? Do you think swapping out the Hive Tyrant to give no targets from anti tank weaponry would have been better or did the tyrant give you enough utility?

My list I'm thinking about is pretty similar but with broodlord in place of the tyrant and extra points spent on more gribblies

Regarding GK and sisters It would have been really hard, there is not enough cover with so many models, I would have done everything possible in order to protect the hive guard and hoping they carry the game while sending gaunts and obsec units to deny primary.

The secondaries I chose were Octarius and Engage all times, but beware that the part of the table when you can perform Octarius' action is quite small. I took To the Last twice, getting 15 and 5 points. Assassination against 3 characters, killing 3, so 10 points and Resupply mission, getting 15 points.

With 2 or more psykers you could take warp ritual or psychic interrogation, and I also like secondaries missions 12, 22, 23 and 33.

I have mixed feelings with the Flyrant, 2 games it was average as best, 1 died before doing anything and the last one killed a tau character in armor all by himself easily. I would change him, but I don't know how.

Lictor was an action monkey as you said along the warriors, which killed some intercessor and tank some fire quite well.

Yeah, I think swapping a broodlord for the tyrant is nice, if you fear GK and Sisters you can think about a Malanthrope... Devour gaunts could be nice if a lot of infantry is played, and they are less CP intensive than Genestealers.

Sorry to interrupt but why is a Malanthrope helpful against GK and Sisters? For the sheer amount of fire or is there another reason? (Flamers don't help with that as well)
