Suddenly a recruit ran up to the general in a panicked state.
“THERE’S A WORM IN THE ARMORY!”
“You are perfectly capable of eliminating a small annelid. Do I have to shoot you for lack of faith? Let me see this worm.”
“It’s not a small annewhatever, it’s a giant annewhatever!”
The general, sighing, followed the recruit down to the armory.
There was a worm. And it was twelve feet tall, covered in purple chitinous plates, and splattered with the blood of a recruit, the corpse of which was impaled on one of its six long talons.
“SEE! SEE! THERE WAS AAAGGHHHSPHLUCK!”
The xeno worm had darted forward, and snapped the recruit up in its insectoid maw mid-sentence.
Meanwhile, the general had drawn his chainsword. He slashed it across the xeno’s underbelly, causing a spray of yellow ichor to splatter across the ruined armory. It shrieked and tried to spear him with one of its talons, then another. They merely thunked into the shredded floor, sticking firmly in the dirt.
The general pulled his bolt pistol and emptied two rounds into its torso, as it pulled its first pair of talons free of the floor simultaneously with an attempt to scissor him between the third.
Circling the beast as it thrashed around, the air singing with the sound of the scythe on its tail and its talons slicing through the air, usually barely missing him, he emptied his pistol into various parts of its foul anatomy.
The initial chainsword slice had mostly closed by now, and the pistol shots were having little effect. However, the xenos was slowing slightly from its wounds. It took too long pulling one talon from the ground, and the general slashed the base of the claw with the chainsword. It was mostly severed, dangling by a few tendons.
The beast tried in vain to pull its talon out of the ground, allowing the general to slice several more cuts on its body. It then fled like the cowardly xenos it was, retreating into the hole in the floor of the armory, the sounds of the earth collapsing around its escape ringing throughout the building. The talon was sheared off during its escape.
The general, humming, pulled the gigantic claw out of the ground. It was little effort for a Space Marine, the general being one of the five stationed at the outpost, and he brought it into the cafeteria, still covered in xenos ichor. The recruits looked on, stunned at their commander.
“Yeah, there was a worm in the armory.” he announced.
“So that was what the earthquake was.” muttered the sergeant.
“How’d you kill it?” a recruit asked.
“Well, it ran away after I cut off its talon. Coward xenos. I would have liked to mount it’s head on my wall, but I’ll settle for just this talon.”
“Well, I’ve never seen a Space Marine in action, but that just proves the rumors.” said another recruit.
