1.5k tournament list advice wanted!

Hi everyone, hoping to get some list advice for a local tournament coming up in a few months time. It'll be my first one and actually my first proper games of 9th ed having got back into 40k during lockdown last year and since then only played against myself!!

I'm not hugely hung up on being hyper competitive, I'm mainly treating it as a learning experience, I've come up with 4 potential lists some are probably better than others.

A 1 line summary for each one is;

List 1: Balanced custom fleet, mainly shooty.
List 2: Kraken melee list
List 3: Kronos full shooty list
List 4: Hierophant list

I'm kind of leaning towards the first as it feels more balanced but still fairly open minded at this stage! I'd like to play a few test games with each (against myself) but I doubt I'll have enough time for more than a couple beforehand.

I'll post the other lists as separate comments to stop this post being way to long. Comments and criticism or any suggestions more than welcome

Just an example, a lot easier to grasp. We all know the points, default wargear and rules, you only need to list specifics.

Nice, looks much better. Are these the models you have access too? What kind of meta are you expecting? If I were to prepare for something I'd expect 70-80% drukhari/admech so there needs to be a plan for that ie a lot of hyperefficient T3 bodies. So you either try to deal with that or you skew heavily. Local metas can vary greatly though.


If you are just getting back into it I'd go with list 4 just for ease of play and the lulz of fielding a hierophant (which isnt that bad if terrain permits). Super aux detachment doesnt get hive fleet bonuses though so you might as well go monofleet for the synapse. 1CP for physiology on 3 warriors looks like a waste to me.

List 3 is nice but the prime is a waste and 3 zoans dont do much. Max devourer gants instead. Keep rippers as 3 man. Resonance barb is kinda wasted on neurothrope when u have a tyrant that gets +1 to 3 casts (the extra cast is wasted on a neuro since they dont know any more powers)

List 2 is ok. Probably drop the neurothrope and the warriors and make 2-3 smaller genestealer units instead. Same with hormagaunts, either 10 or 30 man I think.

List 1 is all over the place. See comments on other lists.

Thanks, that's really helpful. Honestly I don't have much of an idea about potential opponents, I kind of assumed it would be heavy on Drukhari/AdMech/Sisters but so far on BCP a few of the registered players have factions by their names which are mainly Space Marines.

On reflection I'm leaning away from the Hierophant, mainly due to the potential to lose turn 1 depending on the DZ size coupled with the potential for 'rules lawyering' over the base/footprint as its freestanding and its points cost relative to the 1500 limit.

I have all those units, if it helps I also have these additional units (plus a total of 38 genestealers 30 hormagaunts and 30 gants 15 dev, 15 borer) if there are any better swaps:

In case anyone is interested I ended up with a slightly different list to those posted.

The tournament itself went way better than i expected, went 3-0 and ended up 6th overall although I was pretty lucky with the matchups, R1 Ultramarines (80-70), R2 old Thousand Sons (70 - 54) and R3 Guard (64 - 61) - R3 we clocked out at t4 and they probably would have pulled ahead t5 but it would have still been pretty close either way.
