Newer to 40k and need some help

I recently started playing 40k and really like the tyranids. I have played a couple of games against some friends but all of my friends play guard and so it is a very narrow slice of the game. I am just wondering what are some standout units and what are the tactics I should be going for. I play on tabletop simulator so the price of buying models does not apply and I can try whatever I want.

Any help would be really appreciated.

Look at the list section of the forum, there's loads of new to nids lists there too!
Personally I think the usual MVPs are the hive guards, exocrenes, rippers and lictors

Tyranids yourney through 8th edition was quite good. How ever, in 9th edition all signs points to shooting nids.

This is a bit of false advertising since tyranids is a 'monster army' that fights in 'melee'. No, shooting is where it is at.

There is one exception, the forge world monsters are very good. Combine then with Swarmlord.

Oh man. That double dima + swarm lord list was the first time I won a 1.5k point game in a long long time XD

For TTS, the meta nid list is Swarmlord+double dima (Kraken), exo+hive guard (Kronos), lictors for secondaries, and rest objective holders/other units to taste.

There was also one with a Haradrian that people look at once and thought 'Nope, can't kill that' and then kill all that can threaten it and you have good Controll of the board.
