Starting a new Painting Competition/Challenge

Hey Hive!

I was thinking of setting up a trimonthly painting challenge, something to help motivate everyone to paint ( Shoutout to MoonTyranid, the OG Painting Challenge Nid).

Below you'll find the competition idea so far, feel free to add any suggestions.

You'll have three months to get some models primed and complete your painting (any model off the menu). Entry will close 2 months in.

They'll be a category for

- Best MC, that's any singular model on a base larger than 40mm or single vehicle 
- Best Squad, any squad of 2 or more models/vehicles
- Most models painted, a special category for anyone who can smash out an entire army
- Best Conversion/Pose, A stealth category for the humble converters out there. A single model or squad that was converted or just based/posed in an interesting and unique way
- Best Color Scheme, If you're feeling creative and you come up with the next viral "coconut crab" scheme or just paint a uniquely themed model
- Best Painted, Single miniature or squad, for the "Duncan Rhodes" amongst the Hive

You'll need to submit a picture of the models primed or unbuilt, any WIP images if youd like to keep us updated. Finally before voting, you'll submit a single image or collage image for each of your entries. 

This is just for an expression of interest before I go to the effort of creating full rules and badges.

If enough people are interested then I'll go ahead and make badges for each category and set up a thread.


Oh and just incase it wasn't clear, the winners of each category will receive a badge for their signature. All categories will be chosen by the Hive via an open Poll.

Voting will close 2 weeks from the date of my first post. The competition will start then, assuming we meet a minimum of 7 votes (i.e. There's at least one person to lose so we can actually call it a competition).

I can go either way here. If there is a challenge I might participate. However, I paint slow and have some hand issues so I might not. It will probably depend challenge to challenge.

Are these challenges nid only or would GSC or other factions be allowed?

Any faction, even models outside of 40k/GW as long as they can fit into a category. I will reduce the categories to 3 as it looks like we'll have about 5 participants each time.

I think 3 months should be long enough for painters who want to go slowly and get at least one model or squad done. Its also not long enough that people will lose interest or feel they have too much time.
You can join in for a competition then take a break for the next one, no one is locked into painting for every 3 month comp. So vote yes if you think you'd take part at some point, whenever your not busy with general life/personal events.

As a general update, the categories will now be;

- Best Painted: Any single model, squad or army that is painted to a high standard
- Most Painted: Largest amount of models painted to a minimum table top standard (3 Colours and a Base) or better.
- Most Unique or Interesting Model: This is for anything that is heavily converted, based or posed which is unique or otherwise an interesting take on a model/colour scheme. This can be a single model, squad or whole army.

Hey Hive!

It looks like we have a handful of people who are happy to participate. I'll keep the categories to three since we wont have all 11 voters competing each time. The Competition will start in weeks time, but I'll post the thread outlining all the rules in a few days time so keep an eye out.
