New Player 1000pts Incursion Force

Hey Hive!

I'm starting to get back into 40k and I've decided to make a 1000pt list to learn the game.

This list is made up of the models I have that need minimum work build wise (so I can paint) and fit wysiwyg weapons wise. The plan is basically to get back into the hobby side,flesh out my colour scheme.Then play some games and decide on what units to add next.

From my understanding of 9th so far I plan on letting the 2 spinefist squads chase objectives. Doing the same with the deathspitter squad and Hive guard behind as one blob for objectives near me. The Zoanthropes,Flyrant and Tyranofex will just push anything that looks killable. It's meant to be an "elite" list that has a low model count. The Tyranofex is magnetized as is the Flyrant so I have a bit of flexibility.Unless this list is really bad I'll use this roster to learn the rules.

Please let me know if this list is decent, overpowered or complete garbage.

With the warriors being your objective grabbers, you want them cheap so offensive pts are not taking as much firepower. I like warriors with 2xST and AG for objective grabbing, even better if you can spare the points for LW+BS. Toxin sacs on the shooty monsters is a waste, better spent upgrading SpineFists to DS.

Personally, I would cut points from the tyrant/warriors to get a few more Zoans/HG. If you take off all Toxin Sacs, drop wings and a gun fromTyrant for MRC (put monstrous strength here), and take the wars to stock, you can take both Zoans & HG to 5 bodies each. Those two units benefit from additional bodies/pts than your other units.

Alternatively, Tyranids don’t make the greatest elite force. making both warrior squads 5x and fitting in a unit of Hormagaunts would improve ability to score primary vps.

Thanks for the reply! I get what you mean with cheaper warriors but I've already built them as boneswords/spinefist or deathspitters. I did adjust the Flyrant (Dev & MRC, no ts) and Tyranofex (no ts) to save about 30 pts. Wasn't enough for an extra Zoanthrope or Hive guard but I had some extra warrior models. I've gone with a single boneswords/barbed strangler for the 3 man deathspitter squad. I could also do a deathspitter/boneswords or rending claws/barbed as the 4th warrior, if you think that's better.

My strategies going to have to be more or less the same. I want to avoid horde models like the gants/hormies just to keep my model count down. Which I'm guessing isn't too smart since we're not super elite.

Do you think the extra warrior is okay and would this army play decently in a non-competitive scene?
