So the Heresy isn't new to anyone, but something that my friend brought up and am curious about with it is. Just a quick summary for anyone not up to speed. Sanguinus catches Horus and tries to kill him, just as the killing blow is laid, Emperor shows up and disciplines his child, while getting mortally wounded in the process. That is fine and all but as history has gone to show, usually the most obvious answer is usually not the right one. I like this theory, and it actually could lead to the next Heresy/civil war that they seem to be lining up. (Because different isn't better, just more of the same!)
Very similar start, but instead of Sanguinus being laid low by Horus it was actually the other way around. In order to finally defeat his brother though he had only one option.. To succumb to the Rage. With no other options in sight there was no choice.. As Horus's body dropped to the floor the Emperor arrived, to see one of his favourites, become the monster he hunted. Sanguinus was already one of the top combat Primarchs, now with a berserker rage added, the Emperor was now rivalled in combat prowess. He finished the job, but not without tremendous damage done. It is harder to strike down those you love (create and order around is faschist love right?) Than your enemies.
The Emperor is on the throne because he had to put down one of his favourite children, and it cost him dearly. Horus was just a catalyst used by the Dark Gods to turn Sanguine.
I expect this to be fleshed out in some way shape or form, as the split has both mutant Astartes seperated from their core. (Werewolves and Vampires are kind of Daemons guys,) and it would be a perfect way to recapture the lightning in a bottle the Horus Heresy Book line has shown GW that it wants.
Trying to figure out how they are dumping Heresy 2.0 on us using lore. (Not sure source but I like the idea.)
PS: I just realized there are already 3 Heretic Astartes amongst the loyalists. Neat. (Each has their own codex too.. Hmm.. Here I have been poo pooing GW for their Astartes focus when really it is Chaos.)
