This is a hypothetical list - I have some but not all of the models, so any suggestions for substitutions are more than welcome. I’m trying to take advantage of the defensive buffs available to Jormungandr and saturate them thoroughly enough that my opponent will be suffering penalties however they choose to prioritize their targets, while having enough flexibility to shift my defenses as well. My aim is to use this to also make the glass cannons of genestealers more viable in 9th, while also taking advantage of the delivery systems that Jormungandr also provides (plus I really like the new Jormungandr psychic start for Genestealers who may be further away from a Broodlord.) So the list is as follows! Don’t have the BattleScribe file readily available but I’ve scrawled it out for the moment - may post it proper later.
Battalion
Jormungandr
Broodlord - Catalyst, Resonance Barb
Neurothrope - The Horror
Malanthrope
Genestealers x18 - Extended Carapace, Adaptive Physiology - Enhanced Resistance
Genestealers x18 - Extended Carapace, Adaptive Physiology - Enhanced Resistance
Warriors x5 - 4 w Deathspitters, 1 w Venom Cannon, all w Lash Whip & Bonesword, Adrenal Glands
Warriors x5 - 4 w Deathspitters, 1 w Venom Cannon, all w Lash Whip & Bonesword, Adrenal Glands
Rippers x3
Rippers x3
Maleceptor - Lurking Maws
Hive Guard - x5
Trygon Prime - Arachnacyte Gland
Game plan is to deep strike one unit of the Genestealers with the Trygon Prime, and start the other on the board. I know extended carapace is a v controversial choice, but I think it combos quite nicely with Jormungandr, because then you don’t really want to be advancing them anyways, and with the physiology they have a 3+ against ap 0, -1 and -2, and then the 5++ against anything else - combined with the Maleceptors strat while they’re nearby and small arms fire will severely struggle. The two waves will also make Catalyst more effective, as only being able to protect one at a time should make things easier. As far as making charges goes, this is where the Trygon Prime and Warriors fill their role, with their Synapse being handy for the 2 new stratagems that allow you to roll extra dice and discard the lowest from BoB.
I’ve also always had a soft spot for Warriors, and I feel Jormungandr is the one hive fleet that really helps them out - especially with Unyielding Chitin, I think 2 units of 5 can have a place, but I’m not entirely sold .... (they’re 164 points apiece). I perhaps don’t have enough substantial shooting, and should consider swapping them for Exocrines and find something else to do away with, but it’s a tricky one.
Anyways, let me know what y’all think, would love any and all feedback, thanks! 🙏
