Stupid Clear Base and Varnish Question

I picked up some gargoyles and primed them off the base, and am planning on painting them off the base. Ive heard once you stick the stem in a gargoyle its hard to get it out so i havent stuck any in yet. I'm guessing once its painted its fine to base than varnish, since the varnish and base are clear, but just wanted to double check before i do that that wont make a weird finish on the base. sorry for the stupid question im sure its fine to varnish, but learn from other mistakes, if anyones done this and has hints or tips please let me know.

Also do you glue the clear bases, to the model and together itself (glue stem to base/ than glue stem to model). Any hints and tips in this department, first time using clear bases.

I’ve never had any luck with clear coat on clear bases. They always end up looking frosty.

It’s best to varnish the model without the base. If you already have the base on the model then you are going to want to mask it before you spray it. Masking tape or painters tape should do fine.

ah, so my question wasnt so terrible after all. Thanks yoritomo, i havent based them yet luckily, wanted to do my research first, im glad i did. ill be sure to wait until theyre 100% ready to base them.

Mine come on and off their stems with no issue. Theyre a pain to play with unless you glue or magnetize them but I'm afraid of commitment.

These bases are such a pita, I just painted the stems black and based the bottoms. I found the effort to keep the bases clear not worth the effort for gribblies.

Mine just break all the time. Magnetic flying bases seems like a worse hell though. Part of why I never bought more.

ya i may leave mine unglued and see how that goes, ive seen in other threads they can break as well, moving them with the bases falling off seems like a pain to, it seems easier and safer to transport with the bases assembled. maybe if playing with them is a pain i can blue tack them in or something, i wanted to pick some up but they didnt have it at my local hobby shop, going to see where they carry it (havent actually looked where else i can get it) so that could be a good solution.
