I started painting the list this Alex talked about.

Pure GSC. Play to objectives.

However, I can not for the life of me understand how to deploy it.

Note, I have exchanged the one alpha for a primus for model reasons. (I have a painted primus, only one alpha.)

Anyway, how do I deploy this list? I have really no idea. It occurs to me I can split the ridgerunners in three units. One stratagem lets me also put 3 units inti reserves, so that should help.

But I still need 7 units starting on board. 3 ridgerunners, alpha. Sanctus and after that I get unsertain.

I think the art of war podcast did an interview with Alex on the list - have a listen if you haven’t already.

Also, props to you for painting that many neophytes etc. I just couldn’t do it.

I play a similar list, and basically for me it comes down to what secondaries I’ve got. If I go for deploy scramblers/raise the banners, then I need a Neophyte squad in my deployment to perform the action on t1 (The sanctus could also raise a banner, if more than one objective is within reach on turn 1). I also run a squad of Jackals that starts on the board, they provide some early objective grabbing capabilities, while also making the list a bit easier to balance in terms of deep striking units.

But yeah, you need to use the 1CP strat to get everything you need in deep strike. Make sure you select some of your more expensive units to start on the board, and then use that strat to put them underground. This also makes the pts. balancing a lot easier.

Thinkering with the list I thought maiby having some cheap sentinels or mortar teams to grab objectives could help with deploylent. I would have to play it first and see.

I have perfect 8/8 set up with Alexes list, but requires some of the buff characters down on the ground.

I find the problem is not how to deploy - you can't maintain objectives with the Ridgerunners. So your T1 is as good as burnt IMO. I'm not sure how to recover from such a blow and that's what is putting me off.

Possibly, deploying the 20 men on the board T1 will give us the ability to hold T1 and recycle for T3 use. I haven't really tested it yet.

How many BC Laser Neophytes on the board to start is an extremely hard to answer question. I don't have the intricacies in mind to know right now.

I would at all costs try to avoid deploying the 20 man blobs in any other way than 3” lying in wait to steal objectives or as move blockers. They have been real MVPs for me for the last couple of tournaments.

What do you mean you have a perfect 8/8?

uhhh it's like 16 drops total in the army IIRC? So you have got 8 drops on the ground and 8 drops in ambush.

Or I might be misremembering the number of drops, but I could fit 50% of both on table and in ambush, without really compromising the effective part of the list. What I struggle with is projecting the board control you need for T1.

It has 19 drops. 20 if you split the 6 ridgerunners into 3 squads.

5 laser squads
2 shotgun squads
1 big mine weapons
1 5 man
2 alpha
1 magus
1 patriarch
1 banner
1 sanctus
2 cowboys
2 (or 3) ridgerunners

so 10 on the ground and 9 in reserves. with another 3 going via strat.

so we're aiming for 13/6. not counting points for now.

The ridgerunner start on the board for sure, so that is 2. sniper sanctus (tho I really don't like him in 9th. you have to deploy him near another unit or he just gets killed so good snipe spots are few and far between).

so that is 4 that are going to be on the board anyway. 2 left, you likely want this to be 2 squads to sit on an objective all game. I'd probably do 1 shotgun squad and 1 mining laser squad?
your 3 most expensive squads not yet on the board go aswell and then hop into reserves (big saw squad, patriarch and 2nd shotgun unit)

totals up to 1225 points so that all fits. now your not running double Alphus so you need to decide if your goes with the dropping mining lasers or with the ridgerunners and if the former something needs to replace it as a drop.


Edit: Derp. 12/7 so 1 more unit needs to stay on the table. probably the magus or the patriarch, most likely the magus.

I had 3 RR units so I had 3 of those on table. Alphus starts on table with them so 4.

1 min squad in deployment zone for scramblers so 5.

Magus to cast FNP so 6 (also his aura is the least important IMO but ehhhh.. I haven't figured out how Alex is using the HI WLT to any good effect)

Sanctus on the table, so 7. Then 3 more characters or units that go into reserve, for 9/10 split. I took the BC WLT so originally considered keeping on table with the RRs, but the RRs actually die easily to casual anti tank and you can't aura/bunch up well for board control.
