Help with rules finding

Hello!
I'm a tabletop noob (well, a long time casual player of Tyranid with vague ruling) and I'd like to get a bit more into tactics and winning, cause I'm a bit tired of my beloved bugs being turned to mincemeat.

First: a word on GW FAQ provided through their website. Is it only me or they have ALL the pages number wrong? All of the entries they "correct" are not on the pages noted on the FAQ (even going beyond the actual number of pages in the codex)

Second, I think I'm missing some infos. For instance, I often find exocrine listed with dermic symbiosis, I've found what it was on internet but I can't manage to find it in my codex or FAQ. I cannot find the rules giving specific bonus to the differents hive fleets either.

Is my codex outdated? Is there (another) book of rules I'm missing? Thanks in advance for your help

Tyranids and Blood Angeles got an update book called “Blood of Baal” towards the end of 8th edition as part of GW’s psychic awakening campaign.

You can still play straight codex, but this book will give you more options.

Yes, this was our psychic awakening book and includes such relics as resonance barb (which i recommend you just always take) and options for custom fleets as well as fleet specific psychic powers, the adaptive physiologies you mentioned as well as some solid strats. All the info you're missing would be there it seems like.

Do you have the current version of the Codex? Because yes, they do match.

Hey fellow nids players,

Peculiarity I'm trying to clear up. Say an enemy unit is on top of a terrain piece. The terrain is 5" tall. It is marked as breachable and scalable. If I make a charge move against this terrain feature. I can obviously end up in engagement range because at the base of the terrain I'm within 5" vertically.

But lets say its 6" tall. Because its scalable, and breachable, does my charge move let me end the move on top of the terrain feature without subtracting 6" to climb it? The charge rule says anything over 1" can be vaulted but anything larger subtracts from the charge move to climb it... but its scalable....

Any help fellow hive minds?

You have to pay the movement penalty for going up or down the 6". I think that's mentioned in the movement rules but could be wrong.

You have to move the 6” up.

The “free” vault inch for movement is in fact free. However, the engagement ranged is measured from where you end up. Since you can’t end your move floating in the air you will loose the free vault inch at the end of your move and be 6” away from the enemy.

Now, if there was a step or box or something you could climb on to preserve that free inch up then you’d be fine.

Same answer. Note the summary rule on page 262:

infantry, beast, and swarm models can move through walls, girders, chains, and foliage.

You don't get free movement (or ignore height or distance), but you can move through the terrain feature.

I’m not near my rule book, but I believe being scaleable means you can climb up it. It does not make it free. Breachable means you can move through terrain instead of around it. It does not make moving through terrain free either.

If neither of there rules make moving free than we are bound by the rules a laid out in the movement section. Thus the needed 6” movement.

I’ve been wondering about charge moves through breachable terrain. First paragraph on p226 says units can’t charge through terrain. Does this include breachable terrain? Sucks not charging through walls with infantry...

Edit: just noticed moving through terrain on p209 has the same wording. I guess the breachable rule trumps it with specific rule overriding general rule

Glad I looked it up, my friend misled me the other day and didn’t bother to double check.
