Calculating point cost question.....

I played back in 4/5 e where the codex was in my opinion much better organized. It listed the unit /per model point cost and each weapon upgrade was listed in the unit entry page with cost (again all on the same page)

Now the unit entry tells you all the gear it starts with and what gear you can trade or upgrade... great but not the prices. There is a unit price sheet and a weapon price sheet on a differ et page....do i have to go in and add up all the models, guns and melee weapons? That seems very tideous and unorganized.... im hoping i am doing it wrong and there is a simpler/ faster way.

We use apps nowadays to make sheets, either the official one or battlescribe both are pretty good.

No you are right it is weird they are all on different pages, but we have SO many options now, if you havent played since 5th edition then there are lots of new units for you. Malaceptor, Toxicrene, Exocrine, Harpy/Hive Crone, Venomthropes, Haruspex, Tyrannofex, and the new Tyrannocyte. Lots of weird new goodies.

Tyrannofex and Venomthropes were in the 5th ed codex. And the Tyrannocyte kind of was, but it was slightly different and called the Mycetic Spore.
Most of the rest of those are either overcosted or underpowered or both sadly, obvious exception is the Exocrine which is pretty awesome.

I HATE the current layout of the codex. It is awful to navigate and seems custom designed to herd people into using power levels. If you get the ipad ebook version it is better because all the point costs are one click away when looking at the dataslate, but then you have to have an ipad and pay slightly extra for the "enhanced edition" version of the ebook.

If you are just playing beer and pretzels then use power level and ignore all the points minutia. Like others said, if you want to make a list with all the points, then use an app. GW has one coming out soon.
