What happened to the old index options?

Pretty much what the subject line says.
There are options, particularly for wargear that are in the indexes for 8th edition but not in the newer Codecies nor in the legends rules.

Are those options still legit? Main example I am asking for is Space Marine Land Speeders. They used to be able to swap both guns to be any of their available options. The codex nails it down more, but the index left it wide open. I have three landspeeders I assembled back in 5th edition with two multimeltas each and three with two heavy flamers each. This edition would be the time for those units to SHINE assuming they are still legal, but I can't find anything definitive about whether these options are still allowed.

I haven't been as on top of the minutia lately as I would like so I am hoping the Hive can help me out.

What have I missed about indexes?

Wow it has been a long time since 5th edition.

But could you have two of the same weapons on your landspeeders? I remember some restrictions on rocket launchers (on the side.) And adaault cannon was underneath I think. But my three landspeeders stil have multimelta and heavy flamer for versatilaty vs many different enemies. If I could have taken two multi meltas I am pretty sure I would.

They were legal in the 5th ed codex and in the Index. I am not sure if they were legal in 6th or 7th, but I know they were not in the 8th codex without using index options. I'm just trying to figure out if index options are still legal as long as they haven't appeared in Legends.

Given the lack of responses, I have to assume nobody really knows...

If there is a new codex datasheet, use the new datasheet. That's the general rule.

In 8th if you had a wargear option in Index but not in codex, you could take it. But if your datasheet says you can change 1 weapon instead of 2 weapons, you can't change both weapons, unless the index is a separate datasheet not used in the codex.

Strangely I don't have my copy of the SM codex so can't confirm or deny it for you.

The question remains though, has there been any official position regarding index options in 9th edition? I don't want to get into the minutia of what is and isn't allowed in 8th right now, if they officially have stated those books do not carry over, the debate is over before it begins ;-)

No, you misunderstand me. What I am wondering is if you could have 2 of the same weapon back in 5th?

No, I understood the question and I was answering that question.
You COULD double up at least the Multimeltas and the Flamers in 5th edition.
I think the Missile Launchers and maybe a couple other things were limited, but I know for sure, that you could double up Multimeltas or the Heavy Flamers. The kit didn't really allow for it but some minor surgery and buying two kits let me fairly easily pull it off. That is why I had 3 with double multimeltas and 3 with double heavy flamers. A total of 6 kits and divvying up the bits as needed.
