Alright folks, I have played this guy one other time and I won 59-51 with a more aggressive list, was trying to test my skill with less powerful units to stress positioning and disciplined CP usage, my list was VERY experimental, and I knew that going in.
Here is what I brought:
Custom Hive Fleet Prometheus
Metamorphic Regrowth: Regenerate 1 Wound Per Turn
Synaptic Augmentation: Reroll one Overwatch, Shooting, fight phase hit roll within 6 inches of Synapse or Psyker
Prometheus Battallion -1cp
Walkrant with HVC, MRC + AG 180 (Resonance Barb) +1, Catalyst, The Horror, Onslught
Neurothrope 95 Catalyst
Malanthrope 135
Rippers 36
Rippers 36
Rippers 36
Lictor 37
5 Zoanthrope 270 Psychic Scream
Malaceptor 170 The Horror
6 Hive Guard 300
Toxicrene 150 Dermic Symbiosis
RuptureFex 210
Exocrine 170 Dermic Symbiosis
Bladed Cog Patrol -2
Magus with familiar
100 Mass Hypnosis and Mind Control
6 Acolyte Hybrids 40
Nexos 55
2000
9 CP Start
My Secondaries were War on All Fronts, Bring it Down, and Mental Interrogation
His list was something like this
Agnax?
Leiutentnat
Captain
5 Tac marines with Lascannon
5 Tac marines with Lascannos
5 Tac marines with Lascannon
2x Invictor Warsuits
3x Landspeeder Bikes
5x aggrssors with flamers
3x aggressors with flamers
3x Aggressors with flamers
5x Assault intercessors
5x Assault intercessors
3x Eradicators
3x Eradicators
Mission was #22 out of the Grand Tournament book, Battle Lines.
He took Deploy Scramblers, the mission specific Secondary Vital Ground, and Assassinate
I had some pretty big tactical blunders which did not add to me playing an underpowered list against a VERY difficult one. Holy god, those eradicators can outflank for 1 CP for both of the squads. I rolled a 5 to choose to go first, chose to go second, and for some reason decided to outflank my only exocrine, bringing him on turn 3. Missing out on 2 turns of shooting was VERY unwise.
He nuked my Toxicrene off the board turn one with some strats and an invictor, (Sad Cthulu is Sad). He then used his lascannon back baord coverage to deny my Malanthrope taking and holding the right hand center objective (Only 4 objectives ont he board too....) got a lucky shot through his 4++ and did the remaining 6 damage to kill him. (Why God?)
He had so many units all over the place i couldnt go deep into his teritoy as we were also playing long table (F... ME), so his lascannons effectively had reach of 90% of the board where as only my Tyrannofex could return fire, but he scored me 12 points on Bring it Down killing all of his vehicles with the help of some SMites and the Hive guard.
Both Eradicator squads came in from reserve on either side of the board on his turn 2, killing my Walkrant (i did roll hot on my 4++ and forced him to burn 3 CP to fire them again) and the other eradicators killed 3 of my 6 hive guard, and then killed the other 3 in turn 3.
I didn't have enough troops or infantry to fight him off or have staying power on the midfield objectives. Lesson learned, don't bring "Experimental lists" to play against Space Marines.
Final score was something was 65-45 as he couldnt get a squad into my deployment zone for deploy scramblers, he was jsut shooting everything in sight. Zoanthropes tanked the most damage denying something like 30-40+ dmamge worth of lasscannons and melee attacks before finally dying, and that was one squad of 5.
I only scored 25 on primary to his 45. I got 12 for bring it down, he got 14 for vital ground, and I got 6 for mental interrogation where as he got non for scramblers.
I think I could have been much closer to winning if I didn't deep strike my rippers or exocrine at all, I needed bodies ont he field for a lot more target priorities. Also I dont know what to do abouit his Invictors since they scout move 9 inches from my deployment zone other than being 3.1 inches inside my deployment to avoid his heavy flamers.
Lots of lessons learned. Hopefully useful to you guys too. The heal on the custom hive fleet and the rerolls in shooting and melee helped a bit with the Walkrant and Malaceptor, I like this combo and will run it more, but with Kronos shooting help with our "Mandatory Kronos Patrol."
Happy hunting and feeding fellow Hive Fleets.
