Noob needs help!

Hey all!

Newish to the hobby (played 4/5 games of 8th ed. 2000points)
I have been really struggling with list building/strategies. Been getting absolutely stopped 5 out of 5 times against my friend who Runs an AdMec parking lot ( 3 duncrawlers, 3 desitigetors, Castilian robots and the like.) I'm trying to tell myself everything is "OK" because gun line armies are not ideal match up for nids? Lol

So we talked and determined that starting smaller would likely be better for me. Played a game yesterday @1000 points

So I'm wondering with all my stuff that I bought on Craigslist. If some of you more experienced fellas or gals wouldn't mind helping a poor ripper like me out with a build.

My admec friend for our 1000point game ran 1 duncrawler, 2 desitigetors, 2 tecpriest dominus, 1 stratocopter thing, 6 horsebike dude, x3 5man screens of vanguard, 4-6 breachers

Any/all help would be tremendously appreciated.

I literally just bought the tyranofex. So it's not full ready, but I included it for the sake of future lists

when it comes to a list with what you got, a little trick i do is have a Termagaunt brood with 20 devours and 10 fleshborers with a Tervigon, alows you to resupply the Fleshborer gaunts while keeping your Devilgaunts on the field. I also highly recommend getting Tyrant Guard for your Swarmlord (dont want it oneshoted turn one, that happened to me ), and you can use its Hive Commander abilitly with Genestealers to get them into CQC fast. It also depends on which Hive Fleet is being used.

Yea! I've definitely been thinking about tyrant guard. At the moment I'm thinking about leaving the SL out of smaller point games (1000pts) in intrest of spreading points around (don't know if that's the right call lol)

I'm also into playing Kraken atm so I can still get a bit of extra mobility with opportunistic advance without needing the SL for hive commander ability.

SL back in the list for 1500 points plus. Unless you think he's still mandatory even in 1000 points?

SL is mvp in pretty much all of my 1k games. At that level you can easily hide him turn 1, launch stealers for a very killy alpha strike and then he joins the fray T2 for clean up. At 1k most armies don’t have enough to just delete him in one turn. If they do, it usually takes their whole army which is 250pts well spent. The most notable exception is a unit of necron destroyers with full rerolls to hit and wound, that (please do not swear) hurts and they are crazy mobile.

if running Kraken then yeah, Genestealer Swarmlord combo is good, Swarmlords good for games thats 1000pts plus, even then 1000 solid with a Swarmlord your going to really be hurting for points on other high need units, and remember a key rule on Tyranid armies. Allays have gaunts.

i might replace the Swarmlord for a regular Hive Tyrant and add max Genestealers, then give warlord trait to the Tervigon, and give adaptive physiology to either the Broodlord or Genestealers. It also depends on who your going against, either way go for it and see how she runs.

Before getting into unit specifics I'd be interested in what kind of missions are you playing (of it's only tabling then that is tough for Nids). Also do you have enough terrain? You could look at the terrain rules article for the new edition or do a search for Nova table setup to get an idea.

On to the units
I would drop the tervigon, with so few fb termagants it won't really add much in terms of birthing and it doesn't do much damage for the points. Either add an exocrine for some for fire support or swap the termagants out for hormagants and put in all your genestealers.
