Should my hive fleet's colous be identical to my cult?

I'm bit confused about the lore on this. I'm starting a tyranid army to act as allies to my GSC. I'm thinking about slightly different colour theme for pure nids but at the same time I want to stay true to lore. Do genestealer cults only draw their patriarch's hive fleet or all nearby hive fleets? And is it against some unwritten rule to paint purestrains slightly different than the invading tyranids? Cheers if you can clarify me on this.

They call anything that comes near, otherwise just do their own thing: considering that they're seeded from hive fleets that would've had to have been around before hand...(there's specific mention of Leviathan as a new fleet causing hundreds of GSC to awaken). Personally I've got my Cult the same scheme as my nids, but that's in large part so I don't have to come up with another scheme and can use my stealers in either.

Parts of mine are the same but the scheme is different. I paint the nid variety of skin the same, but Ive got a different style of painting for my cult. For the cult, I'm trying to paint similar to borderlands with very heavy black lines in contrast to the highlights. The nids are a relatively standard style.

Personally, I think some variance fits into the lore and I'd recommend painting what looks good over a consistent style.

Have any colour you want. Infiltrating takes many generations. Hive fleets just happrns to pass by.

Make sure they harmonise on the tabletopp though.
