I had a game the other day at 2000, using Forces of the Hive Mind vs. Deathwatch. We decided to mix it up a little by using one of the battlezones in the original BRB. Psychic Awakening (or "rules from your codex plucked out in a DLC fashion") made us want to try the Psychic one. We did not design the lists with this in mind. For quick reference the rules: Double the range of powers that have one, allow psykers to cast an additional power, adding 2 to the result (and Deny) and any perils on any double. The last bit is a revised Perils Table, with varying results.
My list was odd, wanting to compare Plasma, and using Executioners from Militarum. I was not expecting miracles, but it looked potent across from some Primaris.
2x Battalion
Supreme Command
2x Broodlord
3x Ripper
2x Exocrine
Patriarch w/Fa
Jackal Alphus
3x 10 Laser/Launcher Neo's
3x Goliaths (extra points at the end decided to mech up only infantry)
Kelermorph
3x Plasma Commanders
Plasma/Las
I go first and we have short table edge deployment. I use the Rippers to screen instead of Deepstrike and Kelermorph only thing Underground. Fresh concept and nice not moving 10000 models.
First cast I decide to use Vigor (Bladed Spell) cast from my Warlord. Double 1. Reroll into a failed cast. Broodlord decides to follow suit with Symbiostorm on a Exocrine. Double 1. Rolled on perils for a 1. My opponent now has a Chaos Spawn and I am down 115. No problem, I can shoot it with some extra shots and remove it, I can recover from this. I have a fairly strong turn removing about 4 Aggressors and a few Primaris. Already looking not good for Marines.
Marines shuffle up and remove a couple of transports from the action with the combined weight of the -2-3 AP from various guns and munitions. Controlled damage is fine. No perils on either Librarian with perfect casting (theme here)
Turn 2 I screen out all reserves meticulously giving only a few options. Kelermorph drops in and whiffs entirely at Warlord with Perfect Ambush. That is ok, I will kill the Apothecary shooting phase I am sure. Broodlord goes to cast Catalyst and I roll double 1's. Reroll into 1. Roll a 5 on the table. That has to be good right!? Possessed, and now in opponents' control. Uh oh.. Is there more?! Kelermorph whiffs on Apothecary causing 2W. He is later run down by a bored captain that chases him around. I charge into Broodlord with Patriarch because no other way to remove the hidden Broodlord. Makes saves after bad rolls, killing my Patriarch in return. ?? What is happening!!
Broodlord then charges into another tank next turn and kills it.
Absolutely bizarre game, and through even the most meticulous of plans and setup resulted in half my army imploding it was fun.
