Brand new to the Swarm and OMG

So as the title says, I'm brand spanking new, so a lot to do and understand.

I picked up a "battleforce box", and the reason why its in quotes is i managed to get most of whats in the box, with a few variations but not of my choosing. My lovely wife was getting it for me but couldnt get the actual box so got me close to what was in the box.

Long story short i have:

-Start Collecting box:
-Trygon/mawloc
-Broodlord
-8 Genestealers

-12 Hormagaunts
-12 Gargoyles
-2 Carnifexs

I have plans on magnetizing as much as i can for options(genestealers, trygon, carnifexs), and possibly picking up a hive tyrant/swarmlord and magnetizing the same.

Just looking for advice on the magnetization(like per say if i should magnetize all of the genestealers cuz theres some form of restriction for some of their stuff, again new so not that far), where the best place is to get bulk magnets(im in canada) and maybe some suggestions on lists i could run with what i have. I also want to keep my options fully open in case things changes in a new codex

My LGS is running around 1000pts right now and im kinda liking the subterranean pop up in the middle of their army and mess them right up tactic ive seen on what ive read/watched. I know i need to pick up more but costs suggest i cant until later this year. Suggestions greatly appreciated and if you could explain why you chose certain options or traits that would be great!!

I would just magnetize the carnifex, but no one will care about genestealers being magnetized. The general consensus is the same for a trygon vs trygon prime vs mawloc: not many people can tell the difference and those that do don't care (the model is the same size and looks similar).

I would recommend getting troops and hq to fill out a batallion. Id also recommend getting 12 more genestealers to have a full squad of 20.

One hq idea is to get the zoanthrope/venomthropes box and use extra gargoyle tails to build the other options that you can't normally build. The kitbash is really easy to do and you double the value of the box pretty easily.

Welcome. I agree that the only thing worth magnetizing that you have is the carnifex.

I second that. Do not bother with the magnetization of other units, their equipment is mandatory.

I think i need to clarify.

For genestealers I plan to magnetize the scything talons(and a pair of rending claws per unit) for options as well as 2 for every 4 heads so i can switch them out if i want.

And the Trygon/Mawloc so i can switch between it's 3 variants if i want. I dont want to make a mawloc and then it get nerfed into a paper weight later down the road.

and i know the carnifexes are a no brainer.

Save your time on the stealers they can take all their weapons at no extra cost and that most likely won't change. You could magnetize 1 head though.

If you like the hobby to modelize and have a good looking army that you can play wysiwyg, sure you can magnetize whatever you wish. I can be fun by itself.

But I really doubt someone will come to you and say "Nope, yours stealers only have scything talons, so you cannot use rending claws on them".

Ultimately it's really up to you and what you like to do

I'd say you don't even need to magnetize the heads on the stealers. Just have a way to differentiate the specially equipped ones: painting, basing, rubber bands around the bases, etc.

As for trygon and mawloc, no one can tell or cares about the difference. As long as you aren't running all different options in a single game you should be fine.

A lot of this ^^^. I'm an engineer by trade so figuring this out and being able to visually change them is satisfying to me.

Also any suggestions for lists?

Definitely want to magnetize those Carnifexes, the other models don't have the options you would need to magnetize for. The Genestealers get Scything Talons free, same with the Acid Maws.

The Magnet Baron is a good place to get magnets. My LGS has lots at a good price, so I try to patronize them when I can. Plenty on Amazon as well since you asked about bulk, maybe the best place to get a lot for a good dollar amount.
