Does anyone else feel weird about Tyranid "guns"?

I recently found myself disillusioned with my old warrior models. For the most part Tyranid warriors look sexy as hell, but the look of deathspitters kinda bugs me. The fluff tells us they're natural and biological but they look so blatantly rifle like that it weirds me out. Gaunt guns similarly strike me as silly, fleshborers look like something Skully and Moulder would pull out of their holsters.

I think the exocrine and pyrovore have really cool guns that look much more fleshy and biological, or "believable". I also LOVE what raveners have with guns in the form of thorax body cavities and spinefists look pretty natural.

Does anyone else find some of these bio guns a little dated and silly? Even with some of the otherwise decent models (gaunts, warriors, maybe carnifexes) these awkward extremities remind me of the time in Games Workshop history where gene stealers rode around in limos and the carnifex looked like something you got for free with your happy meal.

But i have this kid of weird feeling regarding bonesword and lashwhip (except those of venomthropes and toxicrene)

I get weirded out by the hoop of the arms of the gun. Like what, how does that work? They hould just have a two venem cannons per model because it looks better.

All the armies have weird design elements that are just part of the style of 40k. Weirdly designed and enormously oversized weapons is one of them. It doesnt really bother me for the most part. But I do have a few gripes about nids in particular (shocking, I know).

Carnifexes need weapons designed for their bodies.

The big big bugs look 100 times better with more integrated weapons like the exocrine. The Tyranofex looks so dumb to me. Why is its body so huge, long and tall if all it's doing is carrying that one weapon in its "arms" barely above the ground.

How much our weapons stick out in some models is really a problem. Hormagaunts, stealers, toxicrene, etc..

Fortunately we have probably the second most convertable armies in the game.

Xenos with guns = huge problem "OMG The fluff is ruined, it doesn't meet my Startroopers, Zerg sensibilities!!"

Alien species that are a dinnosaur/insect hybrid (far older in evolutionary biology) fly through space with biological matter spaceships, supposed to be biologically adaptive with a brilliant hive mind but still largely run into gunfights with arm CC weapons = totally fine!

Yeah, I have always been annoyed at how anthropocentric the whole design of most nid weapons are. There is no reason for it to need to be gripped in a hand. Just either replace the hand with the gun or mount the gun on the arm above the hand.

And yeah, the big ropey thing going from the left arm socket to the gun on the right always struck me as kinda dumb. It is both annoying model wise as well as fluffwise. It is an obvious weak spot that could easily have been integrated into the carapace of the gun arm. I would rather they do the pairs by side rather than vertically. In other words if a weapon system takes two arms, make them both the left arm sockets or both the right arm sockets. Yeah, that would mean they would have to actually put two pairs of deathspitters and devs per fex or tyrant, but they should be doing that anyway!

I would love to see a lot of these models get a fundamental redesign along those lines the next time GW revamps the kits.

That's how I convert my twin dev fexes. They look much much better that way
The only issue is then if you want one side to be talons it looks super weird.

I PERSONALLY LOVE ALL THE NIDS GUNS, especially the rupture cannon on the tfex. and i mean devourers are the coolest cmon.

I dont like the ones that are alive. They make no sense. Sure have living ammo thats fine. But having a live creature shooting a live creature who shoots a living ammunition round is silly. Specially since everything is birthed for a specific purpose it doesnt make sense and is just silly to not have things that are just built right in as a biomorph.

I hate swarmlords swords too. Why is he holding them just make his arms swords

I hate fleshborers too. These just look to "human", almost like they're a manufactured object, rather than a part of a living creature.

Biovore, Exocrine and Pyrovore look really good, and I like devourers on Termagaunts as well. But on the other hand I think that Deathspitters and bigger Devourers are just too small for Carnifexes and Hive Tyrants and do not fit. I like the estethics of the fleshy "cables" going to the other hand socket, but I agree, that it does not make much sense.

But again... this is the game, in which Ultramarines infiltrators wear camouflage covering half of the guy, which is encased in bright blue armour. And this almost 3 meters tall power-armoured, bright-blue guy is for some reason a master scout and infiltrator. So yeah, if he can do that, my Nids can wave their fleshy things around, no problems.

And their operator totally unprotected and not wearing a helmet, but still snipers for some reason can´t kill him.

No way.  So you'd have both the left arms for a gun and two right arms wielding swords?  That's a big disadvantage.  And the rope feeds the ammo, just look at the stranglethorn weapons and you'll see.

Angles.  They provide more options for attacking.  Wrists are very important.  Take a claw weapon and siffen your wrist up.  You can only swing it and stab.  But with a wrist you can come in at different angles.

Angles.  They provide more options for attacking.  Wrists are very important.  Take a claw weapon and siffen your wrist up.  You can only swing it and stab.  But with a wrist you can come in at different angles.

You can have the sword start at the wrist and not the elbow. He has hands. Hands are from primates. Tyranids arent primates its just dumb.
