New Player With Battleforce Box

Just starting to get into the hobby and bought the Bioswarm Box Set to get started. I'd appreciate any advice. Should I turn one of my carnifexes into Old One Eye? Should I put wings on my Hive Tyrant or Transform it into The Swarmlord? Any other options I should rule out or absolutely do as far as weapon options?

There is so much to learn and I'm not even up to painting them yet!

Magnetize the carnifex.

With Hive Tyrants you have to choose which way you want to go. Do you want a Flyrant or do you want a Walkrant. If you want a Walkrant magnetize the arm slots and the head.
If you want a flyrant, magnetize the arms.

You will save money in the long run by magnetizing. Specially with things like carnifex who have a lot of options. Whatever is good in this edition might not be good in the next edition so on a bigger model I'd just spend the extra time magnetizing.

Magnetize everything. I have not enough shelf space for my bodies having everything magnetized. it would be impossible if I needed permutations for everything I wanted to build. Magenets are 100x cheaper than other models. And it's easier to pain.

Magnetizing is king unless you're baller enough to drop cash on multiple models without taking out a second mortgage. Magnetizing the Tyrant is pretty easy but the Carnifex is a bit trickier.

Weapon options really depend on if you want to do Combat, Shooting or both. For my Carnifex I have found Deathspitters and Heavy venom cannons paired with Enhanced senses and Spore cysts makes for a pretty durable and potent anti-tank/elite infantry unit and I take two most games. Flip side giving them Dual scything talons with Tusks and Adrenal glands is good for a cheap combat monster that can mince things rather well.

Old one eye is good and you could make him, but if you're going that route I'd recommend getting another box of Carnifex (or just another swarm box) so you can get OOE and 3 combat fex to follow him around and benefit from his =1 to-hit aura and be a living wrecking ball.

TBH I haven't had any issues with the carnifex. right where the pin hole is on the body for the head in goes a magnet. another one where the pin is on the head.

each arm gets a magnet and the back plate i just went and bought some really thin metal and put it on the inside of the back plate part with a magnet where it should sit on the cfex. I'll take some pictures when i get home from work but yeah it's not all that hard.

The heads and back plate are easy, but it's the arms I found to be trickier. You have to line them up pretty well or the arms will like bump into each other when you clip them on, sometimes you get the angle wrong and the heavy gun arm is just a little off from the tube and the rear arm sockets kinda fuse with the body on the inside so it's more plastic to drill through. Not impossible by any means but of all the things I've magnetized Carnifex is usually the least fun to do.

oh i just use a dremmel on the socket and then greenstuff in a magnet then drill a magnet size hole in the arm should just snap in easy and look fine.

I agree on that one though least fun.

My next one is going to be tfex/tervigon kit.

If you intend to not magnetize, I strongly recommend Old One Eye and Swarmlord. You will want both of them even if you don't field any other tyrants or Carnifexes.

For termagants, you should probably do all fleshborers or some fleshborers and some devourers. Spine fists have not been worth our time in many editions now.

For Genestealers, equip the maximum fieldable acid maws. Currently scything talons cost nothing, that may not always be the case, but currently you should equip them on all genestealers.

I just put 4x RC on my genestealers. I like how it looks better. There are very few neiche cases where talons will be better but in almost all those cases you're clearing whatever it is with your rending claws anyways.

Magnetizing a carnifex's arms is in no way difficult.

Thanks for all the feedback. Magnetizing seems like a daunting task. Hell, just gluing gargoyle arms on was hell! Time to watch some more videos and buy more supplies to assemble my nids!!

If you're not planning on going competitive or are in a group that doesn't care about wysiwyg, then there's no need for magnetization.

welcome to the hobby and the swarm!!! while i do agree that m,agnetizing is king, for  someone getting into the hobby for the frist time it can be quite the chore, i would say build the flying hive tyrant cause the walker sint really worth it in my opinion, unless hes swarmlord thats a different story, and as far as making him you gotta decide if your gonna be taking the large unit of genestealers for him to slingshot up the board, as far as the carnifexs id maybe magnetize or look into weapon options youd wanna stick too, personally im not super anal about having the proper weapon loadouts on my models so thats up to you how big of a deal that is. hope you have fun building and painting the swarm box! currently doing one myself.
