How strong is swarmlord lore and table top

I really really love the swarm lord and everything about him I was just a little curious about how strong he is in lore and any cool little snippets of lore about him? Thank you for your time

Two I can remember: outsmarted, then beat up and almost killed Cadgar in 1v1 combat.

Avatar challenged the Swarmlord to single combat: Swarmy went just went 'meh' and sent 12 fexes to dogpile him.

Hive commander is a game changing ability, and he's pretty foul in close combat with good psychic support abilities.

Getting him to survive to use it is a challenge due to the amount of firepower around and how LoS works.

In the fluff he's amazing right up until he gets lined up with a space marine chapter master, which he will mortally wound after eating their bodyguards, but die in the process and the chapter matter will survive anyway.

I didn't think he died (or at least, first round)? I thought Cadgar had to be evac'ed and a bunch of guys sacrificed themselves to do so, or something like that.

The honor guard had to sacrifice themselves yes. Every other encounter thereafter has been SL getting punched to death by a chapter master.

It was basically the same story in devastation of baal.

Yeah, the swarmlord only smacked Calgar because he'd kinda been fighting in a big ol' battle for the how long. Probably taking some minor injuries and fatigue, before the swarmlord then arrived to almost kill him.

I am not angry that Dante won...I like the old guy more than just about any other space marine. Swarmy presenting himself as a target for Dante would be still a good Nid tactic, the battle was over, Nids won, his job was finished and this just made the mop-up quicker and cheaper by dragging SM survivors out of their holes into a pointless charge for "glory".

Hard to account for reality saying no.
