Can characters with > 10w protect those with <10w

If thre are two characters in range of a firing model, the closer of the two has 10w can the firing model choose to shoot at the other character? I had this cube up in a game where the Swarmlord was the closest unit and next in line was a broodlord, i thought it was not possible but i couldn't find it in the brb FAQ. (It didn't matter in the end but I'd be good to know for next time).

the BL has under 10W, the SL doesn't. the SL would block being able to fire at the BL.

i had heard that you can't have under 10W characters (i.e. normally untargetable if it's not the closest model to the firing unit) screen for other under 10W characters but i can't find it in the BRB FAQ.

I think it's in Big FAQ (which one, well...). And maybe CA? I think that was finalised before CA18, and I know they're putting updated matched rules in that.

And yes, the restriction on blocking for <10 wound Characters is <10 wound Characters.

An enemy Character with a Wounds characteristic of less than 10 can only be chosen as a target in the Shooting phase if it is both visible to the
firing model and it is the closest enemy unit to the firing model. Ignore other enemy Characters with a Wounds characteristics of less than 10
when determining if the target is the closest enemy unit to the firing model

So yes a Character with more then 10 wounds will protect a character with less then 10 wounds.

Thanks everyone, so that means if i am looking for something general like this i should look not only in the BRB FAQ but also CA FAQs and big FAQs?

Yeah, it nice that GW is actually kind of on top of faq's but its scatters in way to many documents.

And it is generally good to check in the codex and index FAQs for your faction as well just in case since GW will occasionally rule something on a faction level that really REALLY should have been on a BRB level.
