has anyone tried running apocalypse rules in a regular game?

i'm curious about the new apoc rules. has anyone tried running a regularly sized game with them? how are nids in the new rules?

My friends played a "small apocalypse game" and they said that it was fine. I heard from them, that a lot of our underperforming units (like Haruspex) are actually pretty good in Apocalypse ruleset.

I played a 150 PL (roughly 2800 points) to demo with a person who hadn't played Apoc. It went really well and went quick. I really like the Apoc rules.

I've just done a few fun games. Swarmlord, tyrant guard, rupture tyrannofexes, horms, and gargoyles have been my MVPs. I played a bunch of things I don't normally play, and it seems pretty balanced. Mawloc can pop up deal wounds and fight, so he's fun.

I usually build a detachment of melee, no moving shooting, small objective holders, maybe deep strike, and maybe a move a shoot. Movement trays are needed for a big swarm.

I've destroyed everyone I've played against with them, large warrior groups are insanely good, as their homogenized weapons are all 24" and with aim fire, along with a prime nearby, are extremely dangerous. Also, deploying from Ds doesn't count as moving, so dropping two tyrannofex with fleshborer hives insures you get the stationary effect for 10 shots, with aim fire, hitting on 3s and 4+ sap (infantry). Hierophants are kings, end of story

Bring haruspex under hive fleet lev,
Make sure warlord is out of command intentionally at the start and when applying order, use perfectly adapted card, reroll hits wounds saves and morale tests, use instinctive behavior card, removes out of command and grants +1 hit and wound.

Haru has 4! Attacks that work well against melee and 1 or 2 that are great against tanks, all hitting on 3+ rerolling and +1 wound rerolling. He's a beast.

But typically use it on my hierophant, because I'm an (please do not swear) lmao

5/10 shots if moved/did not move. Aim fire puts them at bs3 and you can use instinctive behavior on them to get that to 10 shots hitting on 2's 3+ sap. With a 6+ generic tank save but 3w they typically survive a while unless heavily shot at

IIRC there is a card that lets you turn one heavy units attacks into destroyers, which are large blasts instead of normal for each wound. Can't remember if it's melee only or any weapon.

played a DL and 2 liktors, popping up with a mawlock while running a broodlord with some stealers into the same units.
Popping up that mawlock to deal some hits, then popping up the DL and the liktors. charging everything on some clumped up units(even the mawlock can still charge and hit stuff), dealing at least one hit to every unit you can reach. Make sure that DL is in the center of everything that you charged and let the BL cast the horror on something that took a hit(only -1 on morale in apocalypse)
The morale phase will really hurt them. everything that got a hit has to do a test, it doesent't matter if the damage was saved in the damage phase or not. And the morale phase is, when the DL's terror rule sets in... -1 morale on everything close to him (morale is overall a bit lower than in 40k)... insanely effective against everything with 1 or 2 wounds. Just take care, that everything with 1 wound at least got a small hit marker and everything with 2 wounds got at least 1 big hit marker, so they have to do the morale test...

Almost felt sad for my opponents, cause they didn't knew what hit them before it was to late. never underestimate the morale in apocalypse... and specially that we can be immune to it. Every failed morale test is 1 additional wound, and most units only got between 1 and 3 wounds. Even a medium sized monster like OOE only got 2 wounds.

And the hierophant is king. 3+ save so you have to put a lot of firepower into it to kill it... and if it got lots of hits during the round, just pick that catalyst card for an additional 4+++ fnp in the damage phase and watch your opponents start to cry, cause it just won't die, while absorbing a full army shooting at it. and if you still think, that it won't survive that much hits it took, i think there is another card that lets you roll on D12 instead of D6 for the armor save.

I would love to get the rules for standard 40k more like apocalypse. i really like that changing activation of the detachments, so no one got that situation, where he has to take a full round of shooting of his opponent, and he is rolling really good and you lose 1/3 of your army or more, without being able to do anything against it. and i really like that taking casualties at the end of the round.
Changes for 40k would be activating one unit after the other instead of detachments. But even if its still detachments, the damage phase at the end of the round is making that fair too, cause you won't be loosing any unit, before you can at least activate it once. That would give the game a lot of tactical options and you need to plan your actions even more, cause you know, that u can't take anything out, before it is able to shoot back at you.

The way I protect my warrior spam is I have a pair psycher in the middle, splash cult for magus to grab a psychic spell, get psychic dome, which is Armor of contempt (roll d12s regardless of blast size) but as 6 or 12 inch aura around the caster. Making it easier to survive, and if you're lucky, you have either synaptic imperative (levs detachment gains 5+ fnp) or go to ground (double your saving throw for a LIGHT unit) they're very hard to budge with 6 wounds at max amount. Even better is the cannons are ADDITIONS to the units gun set so you get your 6 attacks with the guns then shoot the cannons. And since they're synapse creatures they never get the extra wound from morale.
