Casual cult

I find the way I have to play cult is not very fun for my opponents. If I do my job right, I'm taking advantage of every mistake they make and am smacking their big threats off the board. That's fine in a competitive environment, but not as fun in a casual one.

What would a casual cult list look like?

A casual cult would be a couple of people standing around in t-shirt and jeans drinking some fruit punch and complaining about the government.

I think the issue is now the game is go big or go home even in casual games. Sure you got OP units that drop and bomb half their stuff... but I'm sure their army would do the same to you if you didn't use power houses. I suggest trying to match your opponents competitiveness, and when they complain point out they're bringing powerful units too. I find most people will never consider what they bring to be good taking 3 Leviathan dreads because "They're not that powerful, I just think they look cool" Yeah right.

Some things you could do in the list without handicapping yourself could be try a different cult. Hive Cult is all about that shooting, maybe try them with lots of neophytes and brood brothers, it's like gunline guard but not stupid annoying to play against. I looked at them first but while fun they would never stand up to local meta so I switched to BC because they offered the best conversion material.

Maybe neophytes with shotguns, so the same tactics you'd use before but instead of dropping flamer/saw/demo bombs its some grumpy dudes with pump actions which actually can still be effective. Lying in wait with 20 neos with shottys just to do large amounts of firepower that doesn't delete units 100% is probably more fun to face for your opponent.

Try something totally different like a shooting cult list. Check out this list, it leaves 81 points for summoning and its super fun to play. Its solid against some lists, against others it sucks. Rockgrinders FTW! Abominant because why not lol.

You can go mistakes on purpose like forgot about re-roll or modifying. To tune it down.

Casual cult is easy. Just use their vehicles. Their Tanks are strictly worse, more expensive Militarum tanks, and the transports are too expensive for their meagre output. Something like:

3x Chimera (or use Neo in 3 Goliath)

10-20 Purestrains

3x Rockgrinder

If you give anyone feel badsies from this start feel free to knock some sense into your opponent. There is almost 0 output here and all the points are locked into chassis that explode the second they are hit with AT. Bonus points if you squeeze 3 HMortar Ridgerunners in. This should turn the glass hammer into just glass.

There are some interesting combinations you can run - one that I was interested to try was a mostly shooty one.

BC Neophytes in the sky, BC Neophytes in Trukks, drive around and go shooty shooty. Pop the Patty in a rock grinder with some other stuff, bring 2 grinders.

Pair with Hive Cult Ridgerunners and a Jackal, maybe make this a Mixed Detachment with RC Bikers

Finish with some Abbys or Acolytes or something.

I've been playing with a motorized/mechanized GSC in casual games since the beginning. It used to be more fun before the codex when GSC units could drive inside Chimeras (seriously, screw GW for that, it was our legit transport and not a placeholder).

I had two Chimeras with 5-6 aberrants, a squad of 5 sacri..err acolytes and a character or two, the rest in trucks (shooty dudes in goliaths, more aberrants/acolytes in rockcrushers), all accompanied by tanks and sentinels.

Some units in reserve as a strike force with Primus, and if a vehicle got blown in the wrong spot in T1, the passengers could RTTS and come back with the main assault.

It's more thematic now with buggies and bikes, but I really miss that 12 infantry transport option.

From my experience the people who complain going too hard in casual games (even though you're not), are the same that will brag about beating you when you bring trash.
