what do you guys have left to build?

some of us have been collecting for a long ass time. i'm starting to work through my build backlog (let's not speak of painting just yet) and trying to get sorted out where to go next. for our existing range, not counting our hopes for lictor, biovore, and pyrovore plastic kits, what models do you guys have left that you still want to add to your collection?

for me, i need two boxes (to start) of plastic hive guard, then eventually a third so i can retire my old metals. i need another tyrant kit so i can build a dedicated swarmlord, and i already have three tyrant sword/whip bits so i can give him the big swords instead of those dinky looking little knives. i would build a couple of harpies but i'm not going down that road until the codex has better rules for them (i.e. lol, never).

what about you guys?

-4 Carnifexes
-3 Hive Guard
-Exocrine/Haruspex (Really not sure if I'm going to bother to magnetize, but know I'll regret it at some point.)
-Chaos Lord which will become a Jumplord with Possessed wings and hammer.
-Dark Apostle with groupies
-Executioner which will be heavily kitbashed to please Khorne.
-Putting together 5 Possessed I bought from a mate and putting chainaxes on 5 new Terminators.

And what I need(?) to buy:
-Chaos Knight
-2 Heldrakes
-Varanguard and Wrathmongers for kitbashing madness❤

I started playing 40k (and Tyranids) in the begenning of 8th edition. I managed to quickly build and paint a lot of models (over 100), but still lying around are:
- 10 Hormagaunts
- 3 Raveners
- 3 Zoanthropes
- Malanthrope kitbash/conversion, made from bits I started and never finished
- 2 boxes of Neophytes

ATM i only have a Harridan in Pieces, looking sad at me every single day. Its Heartbreaking...

I don't have anything unbuilt. I recently added another box of zoanthropes to get me to 16, but I built and painted them in a week. I have a few GSC models that need finished painting. I would like to add a 3rd haruspex and 2 more maleceptors and toxicrenes, but they are so laughably bad I won't be doing that for a while.

A 5 man aco pack a broken model here or there, probably 14-20 genestealers some gaunts and probably 200+ models to paint 🤨🤔☹😭

Want to add to our army or what we have left to build? Cause those are two different beasts.

Left to add...

- 3 more boxes of Hive Guard. Oddly enough I only have 3 plastic Hive Guard with Impalers, I want another 3 with them and then another 6 with shock cannons. All these years I just never got around to adding them.

- 2 more boxes of Carnifex. I know we should magnetize them but It's so much hassle so I've just been gluing. Need 1 more Screamer, 1 More venom, 1 more dakka and the last for OOE. Max out my broods!

- 3 more boxes Venomthropes/Zoanthropes. As it stands I have just 3 Venomthropes and 6 Zoanthropes, bump those Venoms up to 6 and bring another brood of Zoans.

That's about all I can think of at the moment to flesh out my army, really I have no end goal for my swarm so there isn't a list of things I need to have the perfect list mostly I'm looking to have options available depending on what I want to play. Additionally there is a lot I want to add but cannot justify buying just with how utterly trash the rules are. Toxicrene, Haruspex and Maleceptor... I'd like to add them in but their rules and usefullness are so lacking I just see it as a huge waste in money... maybe with the new book? I doubt it but as it stands most our MCs are garbage.

However if you're talking about backlog... Shoot I dunno... roughly 160 Gaunts, 4 boxes of 'Stealers, 2 Boxes of Gargoyles, 3 boxes of Warriors just for the Nids alone. GSC is like 5 boxes of Acos, 4 boxes of neos, 2 boxes of abbys and a slew of characters. Guard is about 4 Leman russ, Basilisk, Wyvern, 3 heavy team boxes, 3 infantry boxes, 3 command boxes. Terrain... basically I bought the entire Imperial sector terrain plus the two imperial manufactorum sets that still need building.

Um, I think I have around 5 warrior models. However, since I don't use warriors I keep them around more for material if I get an idea for a conversion.

If I rummage through my bits box I could probably come up with a dozen metal gargoyles, a unit or two of metal zoanthropes, and some rogue trader era warriors.


I sold my marine army a while ago, but I still have a box of centurions, a land speeder, and a tactical squad with enough bits to turn them into devastators or assault marines. I also have a tau plane in the box that I need to build once I'm done painting my tau army.

To assemble:
Six or so warriors, I wanted to convert them to Shrikes but after the codex was released, I lost the motivation.
3 TG/HG, probably make another 3 TG to have a full unit. I already have 6 plastic and three resin HG.

A pile of Gargoyles. There's always something more urgent....
Two or three boxes of termagants kept in reserve (I won't ever get them that cheap again)

To paint...
oh boy. I did a huge progress this year, though, and most of the collection is usable for tabletop now. Not all are 100% and often only the most used magnetized options are painted.

There are only two grey monsters left (T-cyte and a second Harpy) and some primed only genestealers. I've started with the infantry years ago, expecting it to be the more difficult and boring part, but monsters are the real issue. Painting so much bone white to a satisfactory level is soul-crushing.

ok i worded that really, really poorly. what i meant was: what, of the current plastic tyranids line, do you still need to buy? me, i have massive hobby backlog. i was behind when i stopped building nearly 2 years ago and i've bought more stuff since then.

Hm lets see, i will most likely get a kit of brainbugs next, then some fexes building ooe then my first 2000p list is finally complete then maybe 2 more flyrants because damn i love that model. All in all i want to paint something bigger than the 150 sth infantry i painted up (damn if i see one more grey terma ill eat somebodies cookies)

I also, as side, I still have to magnetize all 8 sets of my chinaforge dev's and so many heavy venom cannons... and I'm kinda stuck since no one anywhere sells deathspitters for mcs and I need 10 sets

Since the supplements came out of marines people here have had a hiatus from 40k till it balances again(hopefully). Most people are into ASOIAF, continuing our blackstone campaign, mansions of madness and fury of dracula.

So meanwhile at home ive hit the backlog quite well. All thats left is a custom deathleaper from the old metal lictor i kitbashed, claws of another lictor and a mucolid! Finished off over a 120 termagants finally, 12 warriors, a Tyranid Prime, a Biovore and 2 Pyrovores. Bought a Tfex, built, magnetized and painted it as i needed the 3rd.

When it comes to whats left to buy, well.

-Last box of Zoanthropes to finish them off as i have 15 and 3 Neurothropes.
-1 more box if Hive Guard as i have 2 units of 6 with Impalers though only a unit of 3 with Shock Cannons
-1 more Exocrine to get 3
- 5 more kits of Toxicrene/Maleceptor as i only have 1 Toxicrene, though i doubt ill ever need 2 more and I've refused to buy a Maleceptor till they fix our Super Psychic Bug who gets out psychic'd by Zoanthropes.
-1 more Pyrovore to have a total of 3.
- 6 more Biovores to have 3 units for if i ever want/need to spam them

Im waiting for a pyrovore/biovore kit to do the last 2.

I started writing what I have left to build, and it’s too long. 17 dot points so ill skip that for everyone’s sake.

To buy, I need to grab another box of zoans. I have 3 boxes built as 2 Neuro, 3 zoan and 4 venoms so I’ll buff that out to 6 zoan with the extra box.

I do have a spare exocrine box I want to build as the Haruspex (because I like to have one of everything, plus it looks awesome), so I may need to buy another exocrine box so I can build a 2nd exocrine.

I’d like to grab some more brood brothers boxes as well. Got some tanks etc for (please do not swear) and giggles currently, but wouldn’t mind expanding that out to make a GSC themed 1000 points of guard (for local 1000 point comps). I can run the tanks etc now as allies so it’s more just expanding that out for a random project more than anything else.
