Hey all,
I use to collect Tyranids about 5 years ago. I enjoyed collecting and painting them, but because of where I lived I never got to play a match. I wasn't too worried about it since back then Tyranids were basically a "Take this or lose" army with no real alterations and that's not really what I'm about. After watching many Batreps, I see there is a new edition out and Tyranids are stronger than before. That's exciting. Well, I have some units, but not enough to build the type of army I want to build. I created an army using my favorite units and I wanted your opinion on how I can improve it, how it will do, and whatever other information you would like to add. I also want to mention I haven't purchased the 8th edition book yet, but I did get the point units from an excel sheet. Unfortunately I'm not too familiar on upgrades and my points are a bit tight, so I'd love some feedback on what upgrades to purchase and where I can clean up the list.
Without further delay....
2000 Points of Tyranids
[Spearhead Detachment] - 572
Old One Eye x 1 - 140
Carnifexes x 3 - 201
Trygon Prime * x1 - 128
Trygon x1 - 103
[Battalion Detachment] - 1339
Swarmlord x1 - 300
Tervigon x 1 - 217
Hive Tyrant w/ Wings- 170
Tyrant Guard x3 - 105
Haruspex x1 - 267
Hormagaunts x20 - 100
Hormagaunts x20 - 100
Termagaunts x20 - 80
Total Points - 1911
That is without any upgrades. Now I chose this list because I like to play Tyranids as more of a melee focused army. I'd like to transport the Hormagaunts with the Trigons. Trigon is my favorite unit of Tyranids. I saw the Bioelectric Pulse with Containment spines on the Trigon in a batrep and those looked fun to play with but not sure how to get the points or if its worth it. I feel like adrenal glands on the Hormagaunts would be useful to help with the charge. I don't want to use Genestealers, despite them being better. I think 10 Devourers on the Termagaunts would be good so the Tervigon can respawn the weaker ones. Not really sure how effective the Haruspex is, but I have the model. Its magnetized to be an Exocrine as well, but I'd really like to be primarily melee. I feel like with so many powerful melee combatants, the Haruspex won't register high on the priority list and it might dish out some interesting damage to infantry.
Would love to hear your thoughts.
