Gaunts are tipping over, is my solution legal?

Some of my hormagaunts are tipping forward, so I glued a nickel on the bottom and primed it so it matches the base color. Because the bases had slots in them, I couldn't fit them perfectly under the base, so they stick out.

Do you guys think this will be ok at my local GW store? Or should I sand the inside down so it fita completely understand the base?

I did this exact thing. The trick is you can actually remove most of the slot underneath and the coin will sit more flush.

If you really want to get technical you can actually just leave a small strip (under 1mm) just so the slot fills and load it with glue.

They are so much better weighted down it isn't even a comparison.

Cool, I will try that for any future models, not sure I want to redo these if I don't have too. And yes, they feel much better weighed down. Hopefully no one at the store makes a fuss.

It's fine, though I would have gone with lead shot, steel BBs, or fishing weights. All of those are smaller and will fill in the voids in the slotted base organically. I think those options work out to a little over 5 cents per model, but the end result looks nicer.

Alternatively you can also get a good pair of snips or wire cutters and cut the nickel in half. If you do it right you can fit it inside the base.

I feel like I am missing that defacing money is probably illegal.

Well, technically gluing coins to the base is defacing the coin and therefore illegal. So we’re way past that line already.

The U. S. regulation that makes defacing currency a crime specifically states that there must be an intent to defraud someone for it to be a crime. That could make it legally questionable to sell an army with cut up coins in it, but for weighting purposes you should be fine.

To fix my wobbling gaunts and nid army as a whole I glued rocks to their bases. A very small non round gravel. I glued them based them and dry brushed grey.

I now have detailed bases that are also weighted

Rocks on bases, coins or washers underneath, or lead shot + epoxy or superglue have all worked for me.

I'm with yoritomo and using shot. I found BBs were actually too big but a small bird shot was the right size. Put a little bit of greenstuff into the base and smooshed some shot into it and it weighed them down nicely.

Resin bases work nicely too. I've also used washers and lead sinkers that I pounded flat to fit under the base.

For the hormagaunts usually I glue some coins (5, 10 or 20 € cents) under the base and for me is working well.

I'm redoing my Hormagaunts, and after extracting all the flattened lead fishing weights I'm planning on filling in the bases with clay and gluing a nickel to the flattened bottom.
