We have a mostly friendly meta where everyone had agreed to not use any forgeworld units.

Comments (don't play IG, but probably my best known army I don't play): some of these may just be WYSIWYG, but will point out anyway.
-Don't like the excess of plasma with only one tank commander. If it's an issue with WYSIWYG, then probably just take another tank commander or two.

-Tank commander should probably be executioner or BC for the range, not high risk punisher. Especially if WL: don't like taking the targetable tank as WL, especially only for Grand Strat, which works just as well on a CC.

-Should definitely have Aquila on a different model: there's no reason to stack those.

-Sentinel chainsaw/vox casters seem basically pointless. Dropping them saves you 36 pts from memory, which I think is enough to upgrade a russ to a tank commander. Similarly with the power swords, though they're not as bad: bolter also better than pistol.

-Astropaths instead of (a) primaris to save...20 pts? Could also let you consolidate/fiddle with ogryn sizes by using it as a brigade slot filler.

Actually there is a heavy weapons squad containing 3 mortar teams... Just saying.

To give you context, in my (roughly) 400pt guard battalion I have 3x3 mortar teams and a lascannon in each infantry squad. I think that is mostly likely what Burd was trying to point out. The army does t4 shooting at distance as good or better than any other army and it is something strong lists always take advantage of, especially with take aim matching up so well with the cadia tactic.

Well the list is prototype and we are trying to make it an even match for my tyranids list the issue is I don't know the IG units very well since I rarely see them in my local meta, which is mostly SM, DG, and orks... If you have any ideas on things that could be changed around to tune the list up a little more that's cool. If you want to see the tyranids list we are trying to pair it with I could post that as well... We are looking to blanace it so it's a pretty even match.

I'm new to 'Nids but I've played quite a few matches with a lot of different IG combinations
here's my thoughts

add Castellan Creed to your list park him next to your three mortar teams and get work done w/ his three orders ! Make him your warlord, as your Tank Commanders will be bullet magnets from the start

for every Company Commander
bring a “Command Squad” w/ 4x plasma guns (these are you assault / suicide troops)

if you’re doing a gun line, which you are, since you’re play Cadian
ditch the plasma guns and put lascannon with each infantry group, they are essentially 10w lascannons
and if you don’t move each turn they get a re-roll 1 “for Cadia”
only put 3x infantry per battalion, just make more battalions which means more Command Points

probably ditch the Vox Casters and work on your deployment/setup regarding your company commanders
I rarely, if ever, use vox casters

instead of ogryns take bullgryns w/ Mauls and 1 slabshield 2+ on bone’ead ,2 brute shields 4++
(I use the ogryn models because they look cooler than the bullgryns)
ALWAYS bring a Priest if you’re fielding Orgyns/Bullgryns the +1 attack buff is always worth his 35 pts
this is your distraction carnifex, it will get targetted hopefully the invuln will save them
but it will allow your three tanks and 90+ infantry to shoot everything else off the table

make another battalion
HQ 2x Tank Commanders w/ Battle Cannons, Heavy Bolters (cheaper and more shots than plasma)
3 x infantry w/ Lascannon

if you have to run sentinels run in single 2x or in pairs 4x with flamers, use the 9” “scout” advance to push them up the board before 1st turn, throw them at your enemy’s front line to slow them down

if you can do another battalion
HQ 1x Tank commander w/ Battle Cannon, Heavy Bolters
another Company Commander or Primaris Psyker
3 x infantry w/ Lascannon

commissars are kind of pointless at the moment (despite being awesome looking models)
also if youre bringing Wyverns or Basilisks, definitely bring a Master of Ordinance along
