Converting warriors ideas and thoughts about the limits of c

Hi All,

The bulk of my question is what to do with 10 Warriors but it gets a bit deeper..

So, I got these 10 Warriors for 27£ (pretty old, but a steal nonetheless) from ebay.

At first i thought of keeping 6 and selling the others, then I looked at one with huge talons and thought it could become a decent lictor (don't like the model for gamestyle nor fluff but still). Then I thought I could convert three as Hive Guards.. then Zoanthropes, then tyrant guards..

I'm not into the gaming part of the hobby yet (I haven't even got any manuals yet).. but I heard that the hive guard is unmissable in the current edition and the zoans are almost always a must... i feel that the tyrant guard are cool enough in my eyes to merit a boxed buy... eventually..surely at least three models i want to keep as warriors.. i'm kinda building a nidzilla army and i feel they should be represented on the field..

I saw some tutorials about using hormagaunt bodies arms and heads to create the zoans with a lot of greenstuff... probably gonna do that...

But I'd like to hear your suggestions about it.. what kind of kitbashing would you do if you had this sort of body material at your disposal?

Also... i have some stealers and hormagaunts (still poorhammer) that were lacking bases (like i'm missing 12 25mm ones) so i got a silicon and resin cloning kit and now i got that weird illness where i wanna clone every bit i have in case i might use it later... i started with the bases (the worst results yet), then some warrior bits that came broken via mail... but with the other troops i also got 4 bases with 4 rippers each, first thought was to dismantle one to enrich the other three (i like them busy like FW style) but then i though, why can't I just clone them so I get two full units of three bases each filled with rippers? Is it acceptable if i keep at least two original models on each base?

When does the hobby become illegal exactly? Wouldn't sculpting my own zoans be equally illegal as cloning the rippers? What about the warriors->hiveguard conversion?

Cloning isn't allowed as you're just copying someone else's sculpt and mold. I'd also look to buy bases. They're pretty cheap and probably not worth the hassel to clone.

Lots of kitbashing and/or green stuff sculpting is definitely allowed. You can make some really cool conversions. I'd shy away from doing a full one-to-one greenstuff sculpt of any unit though: it's not worth the hassel and is leaning towards copying in my opinion.

As far as what to kitbash/sculpt with warriors, I'd say zoanthropes, primes, biovores/pyrovores, and depending upon your skills hive guard.

Lictors are an easy conversion. Some big talons, leave off the mouth bit, add some green stuff feeder tendrils and your there. Depending on the head plate you may want to consider trimming it back, but you can get away with leaving it as is.

Raveners are another easy conversion. Just leave off the legs and make a big green stuff snake to replace the pelvis bit. Though you are going to have to add a wire support as the green stuff doesn't have the strength to hold up the warrior while it is curing.

If you go old school, the warrior was the base for the old 2nd edition walking zoanthrope. The only thing that is really different was the huge head plate the zoanthrope had. I don't have time to find a pic, but you should be able to google it easy enough.

The old 3rd edition tyrant guard walked upright and looked like it could be an easy conversion. The only real problem is the spine shield would be hard to replicate, but you may be able to come up with something. Google it and you'll see what I'm talking about.

Since I use the old 2nd edition zoanthropes I've had to convert some walking venomthropes to match them. I used the warrior as the base for that with a carnifex spore cyst back plate and green stuff lash whips. I don't think it looks bad, but I wouldn't suggest doing it unless you are married to the old zonathropes.

I looked at my local GW shop and they were like 18£ for assorted bases. That's the main reason why I got into cloning/modding stuff (and converting with greenstuff is now my favourite part of the hobby, that I denied for like a decade). But yeah, online bases are super cheap, if only I could give a tip to my past self..

I don't particularly like the look of the 2° edition models, I think I'll try to give the zoanthropes more like a 3°/5°ED look.

Thanks for suggesting the piro/biovores! I really did not think of them! Also the spores look real easy to craft on my own. Gotta give a look at some conversions there..
