Where are we at with vintage models?

Thread title says it all.

This includes Index weapon loadouts and base sizes.

I've not heard anything official and nothing is being enforced in my area. Just curious if any of this is getting heavy handed for anyone. I heard rumored that a major tournament had a list of specific required base sizes, but I can't remember which one.

Far as I know, either tourneies are allowing the Index options under the Designers Notes or saying if you have a Codex, no index allowed.
GW hasn't released a base sizes guide for 40k, unlike AoS, so whatever base the model came with is generally enforced unless a specific tourney has guidelines for it.

I have 500+ bases I bought from China to rebase my Seraphon army. I just haven't brought myself around to do it. Honestly, it's the thing keeping me from playing AoS at the moment.

I did the same at the beginning of AoS with my Seraphon force. I took advantage of it to get themed bases and make a more uniform lot.

It'd be nice if GW did it for 40k, the base size roster....

I'm pretty sure it was ETC that's got the base restrictions: there was discussion about it here, but I don't think anything concrete happened regarding a list or anything. The players pack has it restricted to current bases, but can also use bases they were released with previously, which I think is fair. Index is (probably) still fine: not something I've exactly needed to test .

If I remember correctly ETC does not allow Index units.

It also restricts bases to be the size the model comes with, but if there are multiple sizes they at least all need to be the same size.

So i can walk into a gw store and buy two units of tac marines, both in the exact same box, and get a unit with 32mm, and one with 25mm, still. GWs official stace is clearly "base size doesn't matter". My first unit of plastic meganobz came with 3 25mm bases and 1 "correct" base (40mm, i think?)... so... why do events get so gung ho over something the producers think is meaningless?

I get the annoyance with such things, especially after rebasing 80 stealers to the new 32 mm size, but it does help streamline the game when playing at a competitive level.
Just look at the size of the yearly ETC FAQ to see how many details need to be ironed out before a decent competitive rule set can be reached.

I personally just decided to go with a "whatever looks best" attitude when it comes to basing. All my old Warriors are on 40mm and they seem fine on that, not much overhang on them, I put the prime on a 50mm helps him stand out and allows me to give him more detail on his basing. I'm upgrading my Carnifex to the 105mm x 70mm if I'm remembering correctly, came with the box set and I thought it looked nice, more of the model is over the base than with the 60mm base. I put my GSC characters on 32mm as well.

I don't do any of the tournies or events or anything so I'm not concerned with bases or index units or anything like that. Heck the only player that gives me (please do not swear) complains that I won't but my 'stealers on 32mm and Biovores on 60mm but he still regularly fields a 2nd ed Marine skimmer on like a 30mm square base so I'm not going to make my bases bigger to appease someone that doesn't even update his own bases.

Wait, Warrior and Carnifex base sizes have changed? When did this happen? I only bought a single box of the revised Warrior kit, but those were on 40mm as well?

Warriors are now on 50mm bases but that's a new change like a year ago or something, so there are still some of the newer boxes out there that have 40mm bases. As for the carnifex they only have the oval base in that Blood Angel vs Tyranid box set, I'm just copying that for my carnifex because I happen to like how it looks and the carnifex body fits nicely over the base so it doesn't have nearly as much overhang as the 60mm one does,

Oh my. The ones shown on the webstore are clearly on 40mm, but flicking through the codex, those are defo 50mm. What a mess, ugh.
