Starting an Alien themed army with alternate heads

Good day,

I'm working on a very WIP Alien themed army. Pre-greenstuff and excess glue removal...

I am still figuring out how to move forward. I have enough "alien" heads to make six warriors and three lictors, I'm working on some "Queen" heads as well.
I have alot of OOP Carnifex that might work well.

The 2nd edition hormagaunt had an alien head. If you could find some of those it would save you some time (but not necessarily money).

It's also a model famous for being all metal and very front heavy, most cannot stand up on their own bases and need additional weight on the base to be balanced. That said I really don't see many of them kicking around on ebay - at least the UK ebay. There are some, but not a huge number as the model was retired quite a long while ago. Also, like a lot of metal models, they hold onto their price pretty well second hand, so unless your'e really lucky to find an old army collector selling a block of them, it could indeed be quite costly, especially as modern tyranids take way more models than they used to in the past

To be fair neither can the current moulds, I've had to weigh down all my horms to stop them toppling.

I've found that the metal Hormagaunts are a bit more stable if you model them with the middle spike limbs touching the table. It gives them 3 points of contact.

Why the hate bro?

The dude is looking for ideas. The 2nd edition hormagaunts fit his army perfectly. Will he want them? I don’t know, but it is worth him looking into.

Are the models hard to find and top heavy? Sure, but I don’t think he would mind. He’s kitbashing models, so he’s not going to be afraid to make adjust and he’s already using some pricey parts. I’m sure that if he wanted to go this route he’d be able to make it work.

And even if he doesn’t like them/can’t find them/can’t afford them it still gives him some ideas for conversions. Hormagaunts aren’t verry popular at the moment, if he could take the alien head from the hormagaunt and incorporate it into a termagaunt he would have a more functional army that also looks bad ass.

Yori its not hate on the idea at all, just pointing out that they are very front heavy models and that supply might be hard and expensive. Remember people like to put down 30 or more hormagaunts in a single unit. Chances are if he's just after the head there's enough official and slightly official alien models around being made now that would be far cheaper to pick up.
