Explain weapons that give +X attacks and points for swapping

Hey guys,
Like the title says, I need stuff explained to me:
1) I could have sworn there was a big squabble over weapons that gave +X attacks in CC, do they stack? Chainswords and Boneswords come to mind. Well I didn't notice this til now that in the CSM FAQ they changed the Helbrute's melee options to that you may swap each Helbrute Fist for a Scourge or a Hammer. Does that mean, since the Helbrute can have 2 fists, I can have 2 scourges, both giving me +3 attacks in CC?
2) Do you have to pay the points for all this swapping around? Helbrute comes with 1 fist and a multi-melta. I gotta pay the X points for the first fist to become a scourge, no brainer. Then pay the Y points of multi-melta to second fist, then the X points again for second fist to second scourge?
Probably reading too much into this, but it has been so long since I've played a game where this was relevant, I don't remember.

Chainswords and boneswords have different FAQ'd results, because reasons (chainswords stack, boneswords do not).

You will need to check on hellbrute scourges. I dont know if they stack. I am nearly positive that lasher tendrils on maulerfiends were nerfed. Again, you'll want to check the CSM FAQ's. Posting from work.

You do not pay points for equipment you replace with something else, just pay for the equipment you end up with.

Seems to me you can replace multi-melta with a fist, then replace both fists with scourges, have 4+3+3+1 attacks (base, scourge, scourge, Battering Onslaught) and pay only for a Helbrute and two scourges.

helbrutes are fine:

Change the third bullet point to read:
‘• This model may replace each Helbrute fist with a
Helbrute hammer or power scourge.’

check your FAQ's guys. this one's been out for a minute.

Yeah, without the FAQ you could only replace the first fist with a scourge, not the second.

Well my questions weren't about if I could do the swap, its just how did point costs come into play and did the weapons actually stack. I mean, let's be real here, Boneswords can't give any of our Nids 1 extra attack but a Helbrute can have +3 from a second Scourge? Not to mention the extra +1 for having two melee weapons. Because Emperor forbid we give something like a Hive Tyrant 6 attacks with 2 Boneswords, but Helbrute can have 11.

That's generally how it works, yes. You follow the directions and do what they say unless an FAQ says otherwise, like with boneswords.

You only pay for the wargear you end up with.

I think he was just pointing out the hypocrisy that tryanids don't get multiple additional attacks for +1 attack weapons whereas other armies that have +1 attack weapons do get to stack theirs. No reason for it other than GW said so, and for some people that's the gospel truth and pointing out that's unfair or inconsistent means you're a hater so shut up and follow the rules!
