Hello Hive!
Together with several friends we're aiming to get a 40k surprise gift for a Death Guard player. Gift cards and several smaller things lack the impact somewhat so we're aiming for a single, bigger, probably Forge World kit that would be irresponsible to buy for yourself.
However, out of our group it would be me that's most comfortable with 40k, and I'm no good outside Tyranids. The target is also more fond of Titans and Knights than I am, so that's another barrier. He does however like his armies strong at least as much as looking good (in a Nurgle sense), so if nothing else, I'm looking for a model that doesn't have a history of being useless in game, possibly while being spectacular. I'm sure there's a mind in the Hive that can work with that.
We're looking for things "bigger" than a Mortarion (got that one already, but this also makes a Great Unclean One "too little") and that alone does a lot for the "spectacular" part, and a Warhound Scout Titan might be stretching it a bit already. What I'm looking most at at the moment is a Fire Raptor - seems to feature in strong lists and looking good while doing that - but it's somewhat close to the bottom of our price range, and I can't help thinking we can do better.
Around the Knight theme there are the Cerastus Knights, Questoris and Chaos Knights but are they workable, especially in light of the Imperial Knights codex? How does a Fellblade feel? Would a Warhound be good enough to trump other considerations? If outside Nurgle, Slaanesh is quite good still but none of Chaos is completely out.
What would you wish for?
Edit: Huh, as of today, chaos options also directly compete with Armigers and Dominuses with free Index Renegade Knights.
