I was reading a bit on the miniwargaming forums because nothing new was going on here when I found something interesting in their own FAQ thread. The wording for if you are engaged in CC is based on if you are within 1 inch. But it keeps saying, over and over, if a MODEL is in 1 inch. Not like shooting where you measure from the bases. So does that mean a Trygon can fight things on higher floors as long as some part of its model is within 1 inch of an enemy model? Has this come up before and Im just blind?

you measure distance from the base, except in a few instances where it says specifically otherwise (i.e. many vehicle models with the old skimmer base, like wave serpents).

And now that I look at when in the shooting phase, it just says as long as a model is within the range of the gun. Nothing on base to base or model to model. So what am I missing that says whenever you measure it is ALWAYS base to base unless stated otherwise?

Distances in Warhammer 40,000 are measured in inches (") between the closest points of the bases of the models you’re measuring to and from. If a model does not have a base, such is the case with many vehicles, measure to and from the closest point of that model’s hull instead. You can measure distances whenever you wish.

Hmmmm found the loophole to monsters and ruins! Time to pull all the bases off my trygons!

yeah that's always good for a laugh. baneblades, GBS and lord of skulls can punch you just fine on the 2nd level. trygon is and knights are 6"+ tall and can't hit (please do not swear).
