Thoughts on Battlefleet Gothic: Armada II

So theres a sequel coming for BGA. Nice. The trailers been out for a good long while, but I thought id ask for the Hives thoughts on Tyranids finally being in a (hopefully) good video game. I always felt like Tyranids were never really presented well beyond DoW II, so now that we get to be in a well known game with other Xenos races who have had similar treatment, what do we think?

Right now there really isn't much beyond the few launch trailers to go on. The first game had some good points but also had some odd choices and some areas that were a pain.

For example you had to level up your skirmish profile for each faction to use higher level ships and to get more points to play larger games. This extended into multiplayer as well and didn't work perfectly. It also meant anyone with less time might take ages before they could play with any of the bigger ships.
Secondly each time you went up a points level the ships you got access too were also more expensive so you never actually really grew the fleet size; it just shifted from T1 to T2 then T3 ships. There is some viability in using many smaller over one bigger ship; but in general the game remained small scale in battles; yet the controls were simple enough that it was never detailed control - so sort of stuck in the middle.

Then there was the way they teased and hinted at future DLC and even did polls and such and then went into full radio silence mode for a good few months. The original game was effectively dropped. Now on the bright side the sequel means it wasn't dropped, but it was a rough idea to drop one game without notice and then move onto a further one. So good news in the end bit it left a bitter taste for some.




Overall I'm hopefull for a good solid game.

Yeah, I played through the campaign on the first one, never tried the multiplayer. Orks were BS and if you didn't automate most of your systems you were going to lose most fights but the AI was good at handling the automation.

All in all, fun game, but not without flaws and a seriously steep learning curve.
