Forgebane: A step in the right direction?

So, with the release of the Forgebane boxed set not too far off, as well as the 3 new Xenos codexes, i felt it was time to ask the Hive what they think of a box containing NO power armour

From what ive seen so far, everyone is loving the decision to have a boxed set without Marines, as well as including the new Cryptek and Armiger Warglaives. Being a Necron player as well as Nids, i love this box and cannot wait to finally be able to have a Cryptek that wont be a pain to build, as well as potentially starting an Ad Mech army as well...

Xenos finally getting some love is something a lot of people have been wanting, right from the very first rumours about this set, and from the looks of things the codexes will be a massive hit as well. So, feel free to discuss this here...

Offering a box without power armor is a step in the right direction.

Not including a new Necron model in it at least somewhat equal to the Amiger is a step back, the new Cryptec (while certainly a nice model) doesn't even come close. And putting not one, but two of the Knights in there is just a slap in the face.

End result: underwhelmed.

The mini-knights are stealing the show, but at the same time the faction they are going into is under-supported in terms of models when compared to the Necrons.

Also I've a feeling that a lot of Necron player and Ad Mech players like the "other side" so I can see a lot of players eager to get this kit for BOTH sides as opposed to one side.

They could have put a spyder or something bigger into the Necron kit, but it gets some wraiths which are fantastic models in their own right.


As for a no-marines box I think its a good move. It's still got an Imperial faction, but its a step away from total Marine dominance. GW I think wants to be careful with their promotion of Marines. On the one hand they are an easy money earner, at the other there's no reason for them not to want to promote other factions and push for increased sales across the board.


As for xeno-love - we all knew the codex were coming; that the less popular factions came after the more popular marines is no huge shock. That said it will be great to see the position we are in in a few months time with all of 40K ruled up. It's also important to remember that through this all GW's production is underpowered and overwhelmed so we might well see GW take these smaller steps overall until they can really address the production issue; esp as they are pushing Sigmar more and more and hopefully see that take off in a bigger and bigger way.

I can see your point, however bear in mind that Crypteks have been resin for far too long, despite being one of the most important units for Necron players. Don't get me wrong, the new knights are really cool models as well, but we don't yet know how well they will perform until Forgebane comes out. In terms of beating them, Wraiths and Lychguard are set to be pretty powerful melee units if the rumours for Codex: Necrons are true, with LG going down a point or 2, and Wraiths gaining AP-2 and D2 with their Vicious Claws, at S6.

Bear in mind that with the codex, you could quite easily stack up some hefty damage on the Armigers if you take the right stuff. The Cryptek also buffing stuff and being a more melee HQ will mean that if you can use the codex with Necrons, you could in theory take out 1 Armiger fairly easily.

Although, I have to admit that putting 2 Armigers in the box is a bit OP against what crons have.

Are we 100% sure the mini knights are NOT part of the admech?

Far as I'm aware they are part of Admech - I'd honestly be shocked if GW made the knights into their own full faction; although there's rumour of that being the case with the mini-knights being the cheaper part ot building an all-knight army.

Way I see it knights are always going to be an alliance force.

Indominus : Rules wise maybe, but generally speaking needing 5s to wound your target suxx, I mean there is no way the Amigers have less than T7.

Also, I was more coming from a "look&feel" perspective. Putting a new Necron Dreadnought-equivalent unit in the box, now THAT would have been a bomb worth talking about.

I wonder how long it will take until any Xenox faction gets any kind of new unit.

Well from the looks of things, it seems Imperial Knights may be getting their own Codex, as well as rumours about 3 new knight variants as well, the Helliger possibly being a variant of the Armiger. As for new Xenos models, I at least hope that Drukhari or Orks get some form of new model. I mean, look at the current Ork model range, they STILL sell stuff from back in the days of Gorkamorka for gods sake! And Drukhari getting a lot of their characters axed completely too, I feel for them.

But to be honest, if any Xenos faction is going to get an entirely new unit, its probably Harlequins.

Edit: Just seen that there suddenly aren't any models for Hekatrix Bloodbrides, so Drukhari might actually be getting some love...

xenos in general need a bit of love, but mostly in the form of getting rid of the last bits of failcast.

Oh how I wish that Necron Characters weren't all resin... maybe the new Cryptek model is the start of that? But in terms of everything else, its obvious that Drukhari and Orks need the most love in terms of models. I mean, Orks STILL have stuff from Gorkamorka being sold today, and it looks absolutely awful compared to current models! Sure, I can understand that it takes time and money for them to make new moulds, but they could at least update the current metal Deffkopta, or release the plastic version from Assault on Black Reach as its own model.
