Ive often found that the more you go to a store, the less awkward it becomes. Im also socially awkward, but after starting some conversations I now know a fair few people there, store manager included. One of the best things to start a conversation off is asking people what they think of upcoming releases, new models, codex tactica etc. If you can, asking someone for a game is also a good way to break the ice.
