Can someone explain reinforcements with Daemons?

Looking over the rules I'm a little confused how it works.

I thought Pink Horrors were a pretty good example of reinforcements and you need to pay the point to have them separate upon death into Blues and then Brimstones.

But what about the Dark Ritual rule? You can summon anything with the Daemonic Ritual ability if the Power Rating is equal to or less than the total of 3 dice. Is that still a reinforcement? How would you know how many points you need to save for that?

Also, do you have to specify what your points are for? Us for Tyranids only have the Terv puking out babies. But if we had 2 'summonable' units, would we have to put points aside for both or just an overall lump sum?

Summoning a new unit will nearly always cost points. Very few things dont, spores come to mind.

Reinforcing an existing unit generally does *not* cost points, like termagants. You will need to check the individual unit rules to be sure.

They work like this:

Play a 2000 point game.
Write your list for, say, arbitrary number, 1500 points.

You now have 500 points you can draw out of every time a horror breaks, or you use that 3d6 ability.

Once you have used those up... you stop summoning.

Note that unless a "reinforce unit X" rule says otherwise, adding models to an existing unit does not use points.

So let's say you put aside those 500 points and you roll for Daemonic Ritual. You get super lucky and get all 6's, so you can summon a Lord of Change (17 PR). You then would have to look up the points of the model and weapons and your total reinforcement points would be 500-LoC?

Which most of daemon have the wargear included in the price.

Loc and heralds of tzeentch being one of the few who can actually pay for an upgrade.

If it says you spend tbe points, then.... where is the confusion? They come out of the reinforcement points like i described earlier, you don't pay in advance. If you run out of reinforcement points halfway into the game you do not get any more blue horrors or brimstones.

That's really all there is to it.

Am I the only one who thinks this "pay for reinforcements" thing is the most stupid thing in this edition? I mean would have been simpler to go: "you may only summon 1 unit per command point spent".

It's a mechanic that doesn't really work for competitive play. It works well in AoS because nearly everything can be summoned and it gives tactical flexibility to be able to customize your lists once you see what your opponent brings since the points can be spent on anything. With daemons there still is some flexibility, but to really make it hum you have to take a lot of risk. All they have to do is kill your summoners to make it work. The split rule is silly now, why spend the points when you can just take the unit and you get them even if they don't split? Same thing for spawning new units of termagaunts, why would I spend points that might be used if my opponent kills my tervigon when I could just spend the points on a unit? I guess it could limit kill point games. I really like your idea of spending a command point instead of in game points, that's a really interesting idea. The free units in 7th was crazy and something needed to change, but this seems like a knee-jerk reaction.

I feel like if they wanted limits on summoning there are so many effective ways to do so. In our games we roll 2d6 and that is thematic number of summoned units you may have. X points or 1 unit per command point, Or even spending command points to summon all seem like good ideas. I do use gw's rules for arch daemon rituals.
