Played deathguard. His list was something like: 3 of the drones from dark imperium, a daemon prince with wings, 2 all las pred, 2 helbrutes with twin las and missile, 2 7 man plague marines in rhinos w/2 melta and a character that gave reroll of 1 to hit plus a little squad of pox walkers. This was a good test for this list out the gate because I knew it was a list that would struggle with the rush.
Mission was itc scenario 4 with the scouring. We deployed our fire bases around the same spots in our dz, and our objectives were basically mirroring each other. He went first despite my plus one.
Turn one he moved DP, marines in rhinos, 3 drones up to turn 2 assault range and then warp timed a drone into shooting position against scouts who I had bubble wrapped on one flank. With only 1 pred in range of a raven, he killed it with 3 hits and 12 damage from the pred and then a helbrute to finish and killed a razorback with the other pred and Brute.
I shuffled on my t1 and shot a stupid amount at one of the drones. It suffered 4 wounds from my first shot (melta from Captain who was ejected from destroyed raven) out of a 6 rolled and then soaked 6 las cannons(taking 3 damage) before I finished it with hurricane bolters but also negated the assault Cannon as the Hurricane Bolters killed it. I killed a rhino with my other shooting. The rest of the game was that portion of his army being up in my business. I matched his maelstrom scoring but he tabled me as I couldn't keep him from nerfing my shooting with assaults and he kept me from bringing my shooting to bear on his firebase. I killed both brutes with the remaining raven really effectively. Gully ate 8 marines and a rhino and then died on turn 5. On turn 4 gully consolidated from marine combat into DP who got to swing at him doing 2 damage. On Turn 5 the DP swung first, hitting 6 times plus 3 extra hits from 6's to hit. I failed 3 3++ for 6 damage, killing him.
Takeaways: One stormraven is still legit, but I sure would have liked to shoot with two of them. Teeth of Terra are dope. If I had used a CP to also take the Shield Eternal then my little captain would have lived another turn and potentially held the flank he crumpled on. He killed 4 plague marines as it was plus the wounds on the drone. Gully is the most obvious auto include I have ever seen in 40k, but I am still working on some lists that don't include him because I am not a fan of auto include units and he feels very much like a crutch...okay maybe more of like a (please do not swear) bionic super limb than a crutch. A bionic super limb that makes your whole life better and does your dry cleaning and gets your girl off by looking at her and has a mean judo chop.
I played around with the new stratagems. Orbital Bombardment was a bust. I did it on t1. Hit 5 units and failed to get a single 4+ to generate mortal wounds. The hellfire shell stratagem put some mortal wounds out but not worth the command points. I used it twice and only did 2 mortal wounds total, I even used a reroll the second time. I gained back 2 command points out of 11 or so tries with the Ultramarines warlord trait. Scouts functioned as bubble wrap but never got to bring their full strength shooting to bear. I think I will end up dropping telion but keeping the scouts either as one unit or 2 5 man squads. I need some more games with them against weaker characters. I learned a lot and will play the list a few more times before I tweak it too much.
*edit* I just cleaned up some spelling and formatting here and fleshed out the details. Was a couple of beers deep and tired after this game
