AdMech: are there any Pyrovore-level bad units?

I want to start collecting in the near future, but I want to avoid buying, building and painting a unit that sucks.

Anyone with experience want to chime in?

Electro-Priests. Absolute garbage. Very disappointing, since I'd been looking forward to them since I first got into the Game in the mid-90s.

Everything else, you can at least make work with a reasonable amount of effort.

They would make great psykers in an AM or renegades list with minimal conversion effort.

Oh, yeah, the Models are great. It's just the Rules that are awful.

Those Sentinel-like models, they have horribly weak ankles and are very fragile. I'd avoid buying just because the model is so very easily broken. I will note the OOP metal sentinels (not rogue trader, but the second version of the metal ones), makes a very easy conversion into one of these and has very strong model construction.

Oh, and the infantry don't include enough special weapons. Be prepared to need to buy as many box sets as you want duplicates of any given weapon...

To the original question: NO! The pyrovore is uniquely qualified to fill that role. If it were running for president of 40KModelsThatReallyAreTerrible country, it would win a landslide. Although I think the maleceptor might be his running mate. 'Nids hands down are the clear winner of (please do not swear) for rules models; forget voting, we have stranglehold dictatorship on it.

Have you seen what Electro-Priests are like? They have exactly the same problems as the Pyrovore, possibly even more so now that the FAQ denies them the ability to start the Game in any Transport whatsoever. They're stupidly expensive, slow, short-ranged (one variety is CC-only), and fragile.

Maleceptor is much better than a Pyrovore. Even if the Maleceptor is overpriced, it has no particular weak points beyond that price, especially with the draft FAQ no longer requiring it to use BS to hit with it's Psychic Overload.

The Pyrovore is just a failed concept in a lot of areas. Though I think if the model itself costed less (cash cost), you'd see less complaints and more people at least trying them. $37.25 for a single finecast-only model that can't be fielded in useful size units, isn't durable, and has no means of really engaging the enemy on its own. Not to mention, it directly competes for elites slots with the other, much more viable and affordable, units.

If they wanted the pyrovore to see the tabletop, they'd drop them by half points (to 20pts each), make them troops, put them in broods of up to 10, and give them a deep strike or outflank upgrade option. And even there, the models themselves would have to drop to a plastic kit of 3 at Ravager costs ($47 for 3). And then you'd see them on the tabletop because they were a viable option.
