Another Space Wolf List

Hey all.

Just thought I'd share my latest list I've had success with on the "space wolf" front. currently 3W-0L-1D. Win against Double-Demi Smurfs, twice against Tau(1w 1D), and once against Wolves+marines.

All games were played ITC format 1850.

Combined Arms Detachment

HQ- Iron Priest, Thunderwolf, 3x Cyberwolf

Elites-

1 squad Wulfen, Wulfen Pack leader with Storm-frag auto launcher, 4x stormshield+thunderhammer

Troops-

1x Squad Grey hunters, 4x extra CCW, Wolf guard terminator pack leader with stormbolter+power axe. Dedicated lascannon razorback x-port.

1x Squad Grey hunters, 4x extra CCW, Wolf guard terminator pack leader with stormbolter+power axe. Dedicated Rhino x-port.

Fast Attack-

1x Squad thunderwolf Cav. Pack leader with stormshield+powerfist. One more guy with Stormshield+powerfist. 2x cav guys with stormshield+chainsword.

Librarian Conclave-

1xTigerius

1x Librarian in terminator armor, ML 2

1x Librarian, power armor, ML 2

Skyhammer Annihilation Force

2x(identical) assault squads, jump packs, sergeants have melta bombs

2x(identical) Devastator Squads, vanilla sergeant, 4x multimeltas, dedicated drop pod

Was having major issues with tau shredding my army before I made any meaningful dent in my (multiple) opponents 3-4 riptides. Skyhammer was my idea to harass to help get the other stuff in CC, though I've found skyhammer to both be a solid distraction and potent offensively. With a good curse of wulfen buff roll I can even get stuff in threat range early enough I've had more than half the skyhammer alive at game end.


Also toying with a list idea where I just spam iron priests on thunderwolves with 4x cyberwolves each and no real cav deathstar. Taking 7 mini- deathstars like that at 1850 I could manage to still take over 20 obsec white scars bikes.

I haven't tried it yet but I have heard good things about making mini-deathstars with wulfen and attached IP/wolves. You loose the run/assault, but the wolves tank and provide ablative wounds which are needed for the expensive and fragile wulfen.

Yeah one of the main wolf players in my area does a lot of that. Before playing him I hadn't toyed enough with cyberwolves, I could certainly see where IP with wulfen would be good. Plus if you're committed to keeping that assault move, you could just have the IP run off the turn you assault(though that loses tanking on overwatch obviously).

Might consider that. Sadly all my IP's are kitbashed and on thunderwolves lol.

basic wolfstar, + conclave + wolves. after star is kitted out, other libby's go to the wolfkin formation and fish for 4++ power (forewarning? i forget).

I have been experimenting with wulfen a lot with the murder-pack as my main play.

Where are you putting the conclave? With the wulfen Then walking them? Are they backfield control unit or do you move them forward?

What chapter are you running for the sky-hammer?

How has sky-hammer been working for you. Do the 5 man assault squads survive well. Would they be better with a axe in them?

Is 4 meltas over kill? I was thinking two at most. I was thinking of keeping them cheap.

So the Wulfen Murder pack is something I've liked a LOT. But I found myself rarely benefiting from the 7+ roll because taking two squads of wulfen is points heavy, but three or more is too much of my list imo for cases of engagement and mobility.

The formation is GREAT at high points and very low points games and even at 1850 it's murder-full, but I've felt it hurt my objective game too much.

The conclave varies a LOT game to game. I tend to stick to Telepathy(invis), biomancy, and sometimes the re-roll save power in fulmination I think?

I almost always split the conclave 2, and 1. Tigi goes with the terminator librarian and he has a tank. The lone librarian goes one of two places, either attached to wulfen(psyker defense, possible buffs, or to a squad of grey hunters. Tigi and crew IDEALLY deploy solo out of line of sight turn 1(if I know no alpha-strike, no guns that bypass line of sight).

My grey hunters often start outside their transports. This means I have 4 obsec units(2 dedicated transports). The Razorback is almost exclusively meant to hide in cover near an objective and shoot. The rhino may do some mobile objective grabbing but I mainly try to keep it alive for late game scoring if that's a factor. The grey hunters being separate also allow the units to feasibly move further than their transports via curse of wulfen buff(33% chance of 4 or 5).

In a perfect world, Tigi with invis, and the termy lib(who hopefully has endurance and something like iron arm) are in a backfield objective squad. This way if survival is priority they can self-buff an obsec unit(with invis or endurance). But invis really belongs on my cav if possible, with wulfen as a super close second(just because they don't move 12). Then the lone non-term librarian is moving up CLOSE to the wulfen(either attached or in unit of accompanying grey hunters). I tend to dislike attached because then wulfen can't charge, but that's why I try to keep grey hunters near so I can leave the squad the second I want to assault and join another.

Most of my army is walking.

On the Skyhammer front, yeah 4 multi-meltas which frankly I'm not terribly attached to but I wanted a massive burst of AP2 or better high strength weaponry to try and pop high value targets such as Knights, WK's, and if possible riptides(that 2+ save drives me insane). I COULD do other weapons. I just wanted the squads to be as high threat as possible so my cavalry can make it halfway up the board in a turn.

The assault squads almost never survive. I've literally had a squad eat interceptor, have 2 models left(without breaking), and marched them 1" away from an enemy and NOT assaulted just to force my enemy to move away/kill/react. Run them into ruins instead of assaulting etc. Not too many people will bring an "easy" target for these guys. If I'm lucky I get to use the sergeants melta-bomb. But that was mostly cause I had extra points.

I've been doing ultramarines just for consistency of paint scheme between the conclave but not really attached to the chapter tactics. Kind of shooting myself in the foot, but laziness.

Ok I have kind of gone all in with my wolfen if you look at the two list I just posted.

The Wulfen I have found can just go and take a objective if they need to. No one comes to close to them. The run and charge people forget about in the game a lot too. The are faster then they look.

For sky hammer I feel Imperial Fist is the best as bolter drill and the devastators get Tank Hunter making them kill IK really easy.

Yeah, fists is probably best for them. I just have 'em painted up as ultra-smurfs.

Wulfen aren't bad for objectives, I just see a stupid amount of tau in my meta and don't see things like wulfen or even cav survive terribly long. Two of my friends that travel to my area to play literally bring 3IK's and a riptide wing at 1850(with some minor differences between lists). Last event of 16 players 5 had riptide wings, only 2 were actually playing tau. That's normal where I play(and has probably fueled my hatred of riptides).

Volume of fire was specifically what was giving my old murderpack lists so much trouble(like I've had a cav unit invisible get torn to shreds in 2 turns of shooting). I'll check out the other thread though.
