Picked up some gants and gaunts off a guy from CL and one of these fellas was in the box with 'em.
I figured out about an hour later what it is. If anybody has interest I'll post pics of the actual mini for quality verification(in tact, everything but the gun was painted when I got him. All the limbs are there, assembled no idea what bonding agent.) , otherwise he'll be a really colorful paperweight as I cannot field him - he's no bigger than a warrior.

I'd love to expand upon the small force I have, so more nids if interested please!

I really wish I had something to offer. I got into Tyranids in that edition, so all of my Tyrants are that model (I converted them to flyrants back when GW sold green dragon wing bits).

For starters, that is a perfectly legal hive tyrant in 40k events. That said, you probably don't want to field it, just because it isn't as impressive as the newer incarnations, not to mention it doesn't have wing options. If running a non-flying tyrant appeals, this guy is perfect for hiding in a building and such. You will probably get some players that doubt the model, but any event with 40k players will also include old players that know their old models. You'll probably want to update the base, but your aren't required to in most events.

For comparison, I've run my Rogue Trader SM Dreadnoughts in a few games. Always get the player commenting about my "warmachine conversion," but there's always someone else that knows the model. I had them on 60mm rounds and no one seriously complained about them. Lately, I've been re-basing to match the Warmachine/malifaux base scheme, which I like better, so my Dreadnoughts are on 50mm rounds. I've had no complaints so far, but I'm not a tournament player. As a player, I really haven't noticed any advantage obtained (other than looking better).

Now regarding the height of the model. Height is both good and bad. The taller the model, the more it can see, and the harder it is to hide from the enemy. The shorter the model, the less can see it, and the less it can be sceen. Lots of 40k is very depended on LOS, and there isn't a straight forward thing about it being better or worse to be a certain size. Rules wise, the old models are offically as legal as the new models - you may get players claiming you are modelling for advantage, but it really isn't. I have seen some players with older models mount them on scenic structures, like rocks, so the model is taller and to the "correct" height. This seems purely optional, but could be what you need.

Base sizes are a similar issue. Bigger bases are advantaged by anything where covering a larger area is an advantage, and are disadvantaged whenever you want less presence on the battlefield. In example, synapse benefits greatly from an increased base size, as does pyschic scream, and shadows in the warp. Meanwhile, blast weapons find it much easier to hit models with larger bases.

Summary: Put the model on the base you want, as it really doesn't matter how tall the model is or how big the base is (within reason), provided you play it consistently and not just as a way to exploit a particular rule (like those old ork battlewagons being made really large to extend the range of their force fields...).
