Been toying with the idea of playing 40K again, and bringing my long hibernating Tyranids out from the warp.
I just started playing with scrap and and a glue gun, and this is what I have so far.
Started with the air sacks underneath
Then I went to work on the orifice and gun ports on the top
Then I started working on the armor plated sections. In the picture there are 4 layers of overlapping plates. There is an additional 5th layer, but I had scrapped the initial version of it.
I mounted it on a 2" piece of clear pipe and used hot glue to make tendril like textures on it. The base itself is foam core covered in a layer of hot glue.
I added some plastic tubing for a base for the gun barrels. Still need to texture them.
I added 5 3" tenticles underneath made of thick floral wire and textured them with hot glue
I've added 5 tentacles coming off the body. Thick floral wire, coated in hotglue. An unexpected benefit of that method is that the tentacles are posable. Didn't expect that.
You can also see how I did the smaller armor plates. Cut, folded, and then creased to give it more of a 3D presence.
Here, the ventral tentacles have been reposistioned off the ground, and hot glued on talons were added to each of the tentacles. Also, half round beads were glued here and there on the upper body, representing smaller gas bladders, for extra texture.
Then I figured I'd try to make a Sporocyst
Start with one Dollar Store Football
Cut it in half, for 2 Sporocyst hulls
I drew a pentagram on the bottom and used that to divide it into 5 sections
Forgot to take pictures of these steps. If anyone is interested, just ask and I'll be happy to do my best to explain what I did.
Top Down view
Still need to add armor plates, gun ports, tentacles, etc.. but not off to a bad start.
The football worked okay, so I made another trip to the Dollar Store.
Started with a trip to the dollar store
Some Nerf Surgery
A slight redesign on the armor plates
Cardstock gunport frames
3" long thick floral wire for the tentacles
Some progress shots
Added the chitonous armor plates and talons at the end of the tentacles.
Figured with those Sporocysts that I'm going to need more spore mines
A round head push pin, 5 pieces of 1" wire, some hot glue, and a burned index finger.
Then I put a little paint on them, so they would be easier to see
Added detail to the Mucolid. Round cratery things up front, some exhausts in the back, and an anterior fin.
Tyrannocyte Work In Progress Number Three !!
They've all been rebased to 100mm round bases. Originally thought they belonged on the new oval bases, like the Carnifex.
I have the parts to make another half dozen Tyannocytes/Sporocysts, but I think I'm going to slow down. At least until I can up with an army list that would use that many.
