In the spirit of restarting 40k every few years, it's that time again!

As for the weapon load-outs, everything I have that's warrior sized or bigger is magnetized, so everything can be swapped. That does leave me with lots of models with unpainted arms, though...

One other thing I've been debating is how to base them... I found some cool terrain plants from a pet store, you can see them in the prime pic. I'm thinking of a bare brown base with a few plants on it on the bigger guys. I feel like I need a dark, plain base to counter the bright models.

Are those aquarium plants in the first pic? Nice colour scheme by the way.

It's a very Metroid-y color scheme. I approve.

I like these a lot. Bold, contrasting, good blending and shading all around. For basing, perhaps some of GW's texture/technical pains like Stirland Mud or Lustrian Overgrowth, then throw in some static grass and your set. I like the Lustrian personally.

Thanks guys! Yes, those are aquarium plants from a pet store.

I like the idea of textured paint for the bases, I'll pick some up and test it out when I go to the store next!

I built my exocrine, all he needs is one more magnet attached to the exo head. The haruspex head swaps out beautifully!

I primed my tervigon/tyrannofex, my trygon, and one of my custom broodlords. I'll post pics when they have good progress made!

The tones of the skin and chitin are a little....too similar for my taste I think. But that's just preference, I enjoy that really stark contrast between the two. I like your armor a lot though.

Tervigon/fex looks great, are the colours slightly subdued in comparison to the others or is it the natural light?

I"d recommend going for a brown base colour with black rim this will help the nids stand out from the base. I'm guessing the green gaunt bases are due to undercoat.

Yes, same colours. The pic is taken with my phone, so lighting may also be slightly different. The original pics were with flash and natural light, tervigon pic was taken late at night with my desk lamp on.

I'm 90% done my trygon/mawloc, he just needs his heads done. I'll post pics of that shortly (by the end of the weekend most likely) along with some bases. I bought some Stirling Mud texture paint, I've been trying that on the bases. It looks pretty good, I need a drybrush color for on top of it.

Yes, the bases are green due to green primer used. I just got a new can of dark angels green primer, I'm super stoked because it will make the shading much nicer.

My next painting project (I'll do it with the trygon heads) is one of my custom broodlords. I'll also post pics of the bases and reorganize the pics in the first post.

I have completed my Trygon! I actually finished him Sunday night, but just took pictures now. See first post for pics! Also, here is a Mawloc head



I also tested the base suggestions, I think it looks pretty good.



I bought and built a Harpy/hive crone and fully magnetized it. Looking to get a tyrannocyte and second terivgon soon. I'm also making sure I have plenty of arms magnetized for everyone, but I won't post more pics till more things are painted!

I've gone through my bin, collected all my old primed guys that I haven't started yet, and primed a load more and that has been my goal for this past month.

My goal is to finish it all before May 29th, so I can buy a "Getting Started: Tyranids" box and enter the "Army of your dreams" contest! After these guys are done, I'll paint either a Harpy/crone, Haruspex/exocrine, or my flyrant/swarmlord.

I voted for Tyrant/Swarmlord since Swarmy is an awesome model and I love seeing different interpretations of it. No so awesome on the table though hah.
