It's been a while since I undertook one of these scratchbuilds, to be honest it's been a while since I did anything Tyranid, mainly because it was about time I spent some effort painting my Dark Angels. They've been neglected for far too long and every time I struggle with them I find myself returning to the welcome bosom of the Hive Mind [do you think the Hive mind has a bosom, welcome or not?]. But that's just too easy an escape so I've tried to persevere with my Marines and finally got some results.
However, I'm keeping a little reserve of gribblies around to help me through the difficult times, I hate painting Genestealers so having 30 of them to paint inbetween a Dark Angel means I can do the legs on 5 Stealers, get bored with it and safely return to the Fallen not feeling guilty. But, the VSG is something I've been mulling over for years. I'm not sure when I first did this concept sketch, noo doubt when Stronghold Assault came out but it's been sratching away in the back of my mind like the Shadows in the Warp all this time
In September last year I finally started tweaking th efoamboard templates I'd created, and eating the noodles that will form the bowl that will create the 'battlement' area on top of the VSG.
But then other priorities emerged - I had the Dark Angels, then I had a Carnifex to paint, then a Cerastus Knight Lancer and all the time I was transitioning from working in my hobby space in the house to a new Man Cave in a shed in the garden. So the project was shelved, literally but all this time it;s been staring at me
And so when things got tough and the thought of painting Genestealers filled me with as much dread as painting the next set of highlights on my tactical squad, or Ravenwing I took the VSG off the shelf and started to craft the Chitinous plates that will form the spine of the VSG focussing emitter
I can promise a few more updates are up coming here's the latest: 40kaddict.blogspot.co.uk/2016/02/nids-part-183-tyranid-void-shield.html
But I have quite a few projects on the go - an Imperial Knight, a Nephilim Jetfighter, 6 Ravenwing bikes, 5 Deathwing Knights, not to mention the 30 Stealers, so progress may be slow in places but it will progress. Hope you like it.
