Hey guys,
Instead of making thread after thread of Eldar stuff, I'm just gonna post my list and ask for ideas here. I may reiterate some things I've mentioned before in other threads, but this is for those who haven't seen it. I will also go over the Imperial Armour rules to give everyone a basic understanding.
I will be using the Pale Courts Battlehost, which is an extra Core choice. When taking this choice I cannot take other Core choices, save more Pale Courts, but Command and Auxiliary choices as normal. There is also another catch I will cover soon.
The Pale Court Battlehost consists of:
1 Farseer
3 Guardian units
0-1 Warlock Conclave
Not much to go on but taking a Pale Court allows me to take up to two special rules that modify what else is allowed into the Pale Court. My two examples will be the two I wish to bring:
Graveyard of Dreams: I must include 3 units of Wraithblades, the Guardian units become 0-3, and all Wraithblades in the entire detachment gain Crusader.
Tomb-ship of Fallen Heroes: I must replace the Farseer with a Spiritseer or a Wraithseer, I may add a single Wraithlord, and if the Wraithseer or Lord is my warlord, I can roll 2D6 on the warlord traits and choose which I want.
Next, as I am required to bring at least one Auxiliary choice, I would obviously bring in a Wraith Host.
So this would be the list I would like:
Wraithseer: D-Cannon
//A Wraithseer is what you get when you put a dead Seer's Spirit Stone into a Wraithlord chassis. It is an Independent Character and has the Lord's statline, is a Monstrous Creature, and is equipped with a Ghostspear(+2 STR, AP 2, Sunder, Master-crafted), Wraithsield for 5++, and Psychic Master 1 with three powers (a blessing where a single unit of Blades, Guards, or a Lord gain Fleet, a Witchfire that if it hits the target it must take a pinning test with a -2 modifier, and another Blessing that gives a single unit of Blaes, Guards, or a Wraithlord FnP 5+). The unit is pricey but can also take a single ranged weapon. The D-Cannon is destructive and would make the Wraithseer a walking weapons platform of pure ouch, although not cheap at all.
5 Wraithblades: Axe/Shield
5 Wraithblades: Axe/Shield
5 Wraithblades: Axe/Shield
//Nothing else to add except they all get Crusader as well.
Spiritseer
//I figure keep it clean. While I can give it some Remnants gear, I feel the most important thing it needs to do is stay near the front lines so everything can get the Guided Wraithsight bonus.
5 Wraithguards: Wraithcannon
5 Wraithguards: D-Scythe
5 Wraithguards: D-Scythe
//One unit keeps the Wraithcannon just in case (plus it saves 50 points)
Wraithlord: 2 Flamers, Ghostglaive, two Brightlances
//For vehicle and/or MC hunting
Wraithknight: Ghostglaive/Shield, 2 Starcannons
//If the knight is doing his thing all over the field, then I'd rather give him weapons with multiple shots instead of just one per weapon
This brings me to 1845.
Getting a good balance of weapons for vs vehicles or vs infantry is hard. Obviously the D-Scythes and D-Cannon would be good against pretty much anything infantry but then that leaves only the Brightlances/Starcannons of the Lord and Knight for anything tougher. But not much else can be done when points are this tight and models are so few.
Now I can wish all day for stuff I'd like to bring in...more Spiritseers or a Farseer, even a Hemlock. But with the Pale Court rules and the Wraith Host formation, I have to follow the number of units specified or else I'd drop a unit of Blades.
And the catch about the special rules I mentioned earlier: I can bring multiple Pale Court Core choices in, but they have to follow the same special runes. So Both would have to pick Tomb-ship and Graveyard.
But besides all that if anyone can think of a way to finagle an extra psyker in there somehow, I'm all ears. Or if we wanted to just discuss general tips or ideas, let's do it.
*EDIT*
A Few things I thought of that may help move points around:
The special Command choice from the IA book is Lord of the Undying Host. It's one Wraithseer with 1-3 Wraithblades. While it is another extra unit of blades, it would allow me to take this Wraithseer my warlord and could skip the Tomb-ship of Fallen Heroes one. This would allow me to keep the standard Farseer from the Pale Court or I could swap it for a second Spiritseer.
I also wanted to point out that because this is a legal Craftworld Warhost, everything would get the Matchless Agility benefit. That would also mean everything in the Wraith Host would have one pretty nasty Battle Focus. The reason why I'm so gun ho on keeping it a Warhost detachment is because I can't use the Objective Secured of a regular CAD. Nothing in this list is a Troop choice. And since I'm so tight on points already and can't really afford Wave Serpents for everything, I feel it would be best to make all the Wraiths move as fast as they could anyway.
For the Wraithseer's warlord traits, I figured rolling on the Eldar trait table. Since I get a 2D6 and choice which one I want, I thought rolling for An Eye of Distance Events for D3 scouts, Falcon's Swiftness for +3 runs, or even Fate's Messenger for a re-roll failed saves of 1 were all great choices. I know some options in the BRB traits are good (can you imagine It Will Not Die on a Wraithseer?), but the Eldar traits offer more on a single table that I feel would be beneficial.
Unfortunately, Wraiths are just super expensive. And having to take 3 Blade units from the Graveyard of Dreams rule and then 3 more units from the Wraith Host, the points are just massive. I could always shave a few points off the Guard by not giving them D-Scythes and load the Lord and Wraith with Scatterlasers and hope that does the anti-infantry role well. But then I would feel it would be difficult to get the Guard with Wraithcannons into range to shoot at their targets.
Why must I play these low model count, high point army lists? I have the Nidzilla/Grey Knight/Wraith syndrome...
