Hierophant question, possible WIP pics to come

So I just started painting my hierophant, have only at this point washed, primed, and given my talon bits their base color of red. 

That said, I had a question, I don't want to put this baddie on a conventional base. I want to alleviate weight on the legs to prevent warping, but was hoping to provide what's mostly just a central body support capable of pulling it off.

I was hoping to use a piece of terrain like a pillar of sorts, but as a result I was wondering approximately what's the distance between the ground beneath the model and the part of the ribs about an inch behind the middle(aka the front leg) sockets? Eyeballing the legs and stuff I want to guess like 5" but I could be wrong. I don't want to just use a copper rod, might get an acrylic one.

Not trying to assemble the model (till painted) and haven't gotten to pinning on it just yet.

I'm scractch building my own from a couple of tfexes, and ill try to use a flying stand on the back hump area. seems to fit about right. i might try your pillar idea, maybe put in part of a ruined building with a cowering stealth suit inside!

I ordered a 12 inch clear acrylic rod to mount mine on, but I haven't begun assembly on mine yet so I can't give you measurements sorry.

About one Trygon tall, to the highest part of the underbelly at least. Can easily take more precise measurements when I get home if needed.

WHOO thats a bit bigger than I have. It'll just have to be a more compact strain. maybe if I buy an actual Hierophant my confersion will do for a hierodule. I've kind of liked the more modern spindly-looking nids compared to the old bone-slugs.

For the time being I bought a harpy/crone flight base, I think I can make that work but worst case scenario I have an extra flyer base around just in case.
