How to teach someone strategy?

So I have been having a problem with one of my friends when playing miniatures games, namely that they cannot win at any game we play. Consequently they always blame my army for being broken no matter what game it is or what army I choose. We started off on warhammer 40k but he quickly gave that up after complaining about how the new rules were terrible and ruined his army (he plays tau/grey knights and I play orks). Then we tried warhammer fantasy and after $300 spent on an army he continued to lose games to my elves. Then he moved onto dropzone commander and though it has some of the most balanced rules I have seen in a miniatures game he rarely won and claims my army is broken and quit in the middle of games where it looked like he would lose (several times I had him switch sides to show him how he could've won) but he will no longer play against me if I use my army which he claims is broken and I dont have the money to go buying another army. I don't really know what to do anymore, I cant afford any new armies or starting any new games. I have tried to show them how I counter their strategies in order to give them plenty of time to think up a way to counter my army (We play DZC and he I play the resistance). How can I help him win against me or teach him how to start winning games. I'm past the point of letting him win as now he just outright refuses to play (and he is the only one in the area who plays this game which meas I wasted alot of money if i cant use my army). I want to show him how he can exploit his advantages in order to win but i dont know how to do this.

I know a few people like that, unfortunately. Do you not have a local games club? You could both attend and join forces against others with your resistance, playing others will help in building strategies and familiarisation with the army. This may help your friend in the long run, or at least introduce you to more gamers.

I have an LGS but nobody else plays DZC. I try to bring them there but they keep making excuses not to go.

Are you anywhere near Bristol, I've got a scourge army that I am still to play.

Maybe try some board games or something for a while. Something where no one's invested in a particular side, so you can switch and he can try them both/all out. Maybe go all the way back to a classic, like Chess or something.

The problem you're having, and will continue to have, is that he is blaming the losses on other things. If he can't accept responsibility for his loss, at least in part, then he will never have any reason to learn to be a better player. At this point the guy is unteachable.

Have you considered an army swap? Maybe if he plays a "broken" army then it might help him come to grips with the fact that he needs help.

I was thinking chess as well. But I agree, someone who manages to blame anything but themselves on every occasion are probably beyond teaching. I'm not very tactically inclined either, but I have little trouble seeing whenever I goof up and I would never blame my opponent or his army for my loss. Especially not when you switch army and even game systems on a regular basis.

I'll see what he says about swapping armies, I just cant spend any more money on games.

I would try the swapping armies thing.

Swapping army for a game or 2 seems good to me.I may help dispel the myth that what you runnin is inheritenly broken.
