I don't know. Some GW rules writing needs clarification for sure but some things can be implied without any problems unless the issue is stretched IMO. In the second version do you really need "every turn"? By saying every weapon fires automatically doesn't that mean there is no choice each turn, that every weapon must fire if there is a target within range and is the nearest to the pod?
I agree that for clarity GW should have put the "of the model" to remove the view of "from each weapon" and who knows what GW intended. However, since the pod is a MC shooting is measured from the base of the model, not the weapon, so therefore all weapons have to fire at the same target. Is there anything that contradicts this? At least that is from what I have been reading of the argument. Again, if this wasn't intended GW should have added clarification such as your first example which would alter my view of what would happen. Without that I don't see how anyone can either look at the pod as though it is a vehicle with firing arcs (unless the rules say something to that effect) or that each weapon must be measured separately to targets (and for a BS 2 weapon that would waste time for a few pods).
In the WD there is a sidebar that clearly describes Instinctive Fire as measuring from the muzzle of the weapon.
This does not appear to be a rule. Just a description. Because of that, it is causing confusion.
To me, the INTENT seems to be "measure from the muzzle." This is how I'll play it. But I'm a casual, narrative player who enjoys making his own rules, units, and scenarios for my local group, so this has no bearing on competitive play.
We won't actually know if it's clarified until we see the rules that are supposedly packed in the box.

Ahh, I see how that muddies the waters. Is there anything in the WD descriptions or rules that alludes to firing arcs? If not I would suggest someone from GW forgot it was a MC and wrote that poorly. I guess each gaming group will have to decide themselves how they will approach it unless GW puts out an errata - just kiddiing.
